THE LEGO MOVIE: Arguably one of the deepest socially conscious animated film in recent history.

I just got back from watching The Lego Movie. I came in with my daughter assuming it'll be some funny (which indeed was) crackpot Lego adventure flick with a lot of pokes at pop culture (which it had).

I left that film amazed at the jewels this film was pushing. This film is a blend of 1984 with A Brave New World and add the analogy/theology of both The Matrix and Prometheus. There was so many deep levels of knowledge and jewels in this film that left my mouth dropped in awe.

Got to applaud the makers of this film in making those daring and ambitious themes in what would be disguised as a mere children's movie.

Here's a basic spoiler free premise. Anything more will give a lot of things away.

The simple tale is loaded with gleeful pop-culture references and great voice-acting (everyoneis in this movie, by the way, from Morgan Freeman and Jonah Hill to Cobie Smulders and Alison Brie). But what makes The Lego Movie even more accessible for viewers above the age of six is the fact that the film is full of political and social satire. The villain is President/Lord Business (voiced by WillFerrell), who presides over a totalitarian surveillance state. President Business' regime creates virtually everything in the Lego society—generic pop music, lousy TV comedy, cameras, rigged voting machines, you name it. The dictator/CEO uses extended televised broadcasts to inform his citizens (with a friendly grin on his face) that they'll be executed if they disobey. He controls a secret police led by Bad Cop/Good Cop (Liam Neeson), who is charged with torturing dissidents and rebels.

after watching WALL-E and UP...i spent hours discussing these movies with my girl.
at first she was not hearing me (especially wit WALL-E) but we both eventually came to the conclusion that some very deep things were being addressed.

It has some similar themes like WALL-E when addressing society's conformity, although WALL-E was more an environmentalist film as a whole. However, this film adds so many layers of thought to which I cannot spoil or even briefly explain because it'll take a full novel. But one thing for sure, it takes what you would assume or even cliche and flip it on its head. It really targets on many conflicting ideologies and roles of governing and beliefs systems.
