As far as Ricky turning down creative, the only thing I ever heard was that he didn’t think he should beat Big Bill. He didn’t say he wouldn’t do it, he just didn’t agree with it.

pretty much this. they just asked him his round about thoughts on the potential angle and he said he doesn't see how Bill benefits from losing the feud, as was the plan as pitched.

Seeing that tweet just gave me an idea…

Since Joe and Shibata always have a towel around their neck and shoulders for their entrance…

They should run a story with HOOK where Joe and Shibata are putting him on a quest to earn the rights to be bestowed a towel from Joe and Shibata. A good ole symbolic passing the torch type thing.

Instead of just being a fun trios team, it gives HOOK some individual direction and a kayfabe reason to justify Joe and Shibata taking HOOK under their wings. And it also turns something Joe and Shibata just wear to the ring into a symbol of honor and prestige.

Also then AEW could throw up Joe, Shibata, and HOOK towels in the AEW store and sell more of them than they would if they sold random Joe and Shibata towels just because.

The towel merch is definitely something they should do. The towel angle would get shyt on on by the weirdo marks. “LOLZ FigHtInG foR a TowEl???”

If AEW were to do another round of releases of notable talent, who would you include in it?

I’m going with…
  • Rey Fenix
  • Danhausen
  • Jack Perry
  • Keith Lee - but still cover his medical bills if that’s a thing
  • Scorpio Sky
  • Wardlow
  • Wheeler Yuta
  • Britt Baker
  • Kamille
  • Saraya

I don't think Jack Perry or Yuta would be cut. The others wouldn't be surprising.

Half of those people going to NXT. I don't see Yuta or Keith Lee going though.

top 2 angles in the E the last year were nikkas fighting over a necklace and a bracelet.
it isn't about what's being done, it's the execution. It's viable to book this storyline and have it work considering the history of Taz and the towel. I just don't have faith in AEW's ability to tell that story in a way that doesn't feel like a canned, corny, forced 'passing of the torch' moment.

If they could, the angle would definitely be doable.

Honestly I'd just keep it to a backstage pre-tape. Explain that the towel is how they focus, block out everyone else, whatever it may be. Give Hook a reason to need to lock in. Then just have him do it for a match with stakes, and have him come out on a mission. It'd take him upping the in-ring intensity. If he has a second gear they want to debut, it'd only take that pre-tape.

Take a weekend. Call Joe, Shibata, Taz, Hook, a cameraman and a Bad Bath & Beyond run. Give Hook a TBS title shot to lock in for (and win) and you could get him over in a week for less than a case of eggs costs :yeshrug:
