Thinking about making a LinkedIn account, just wanted to know the do's/don'ts of LinkedIn before I go:salute:

I've heard some people say it's completely useless and others say it's gotten them great job offers, so how do you guys go about making the most out of it?

Meh, shyts mostly useless.

Post a professional pic in your icon I see too many Facebook type photos in LinkedIn profiles (mostly girls)

Don't expect anything from it

Its definitely not useless, I got my last gig from there, I get recruiters calling/emailing me all day, just make yourself marketable by showing off your experiences and skills.

This man knows. I've gotten at least 2 phone interviews a month from LinkedIn when I wasn't even looking. Now that I am looking, I get 2-4 phone interviews a week. Depending on your career and industry, understand that recruiters and headhunters are heavily used, and to them it's a sales game, if they can sell you to a potential employer, they get a hefty commission. A well designed LinkedIn profile does half the job for them.

Join as many groups related to your industry as possible. So your network grows bigger.

Get former bosses or coworkers to write recommendations for you.

Limit the amount of detail you put on your job duties...leaving it ambiguous results in more calls and/or email inquiries.

Yezzurrr :win: you trying to use it? idk how it works in Australia though breh, or anywhere besides #murica breh :manny: But the amount of recruiters I get calling me at work is crazy, it's slowed up a little with oil being down, but still its jumping like Lebron instead of Jordan, but still jumping

Definitely useful.

Put your LinkedIn on your résumé and link all of your careerbuilder/indeed/monster profiles to it.

Post professional stuff on your page. Don't treat it like MySpace.

Apply for jobs and talk directly to the recruiters who post the listings.

Find out about positions before they hit the open job market.

I've had at least 5 interviews and 3 job offense since January. All off LinkedIn.

I don't think I'll really be needing it until 2018/2019 after I've graduated uni :lolbron: unless it's useful to find minor part time jobs? :yeshrug: I was just curious
