According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, friends of Rey Mysterio that are in WWE think it is a matter of time before he returns to the company and leaves Lucha Underground.

The big question would be if he returns before or after season three of Lucha Underground, which is reported to begin production in March, with a premiere this September.

It was previously reported that Rey Mysterio is holding out on appearing for AAA due to the company reportedly being behind on payments.

Mysterio’s situation is said to be similar to Alberto Del Rio’s, where money and creative are reasons for a possible departure. The Observer noted it was interesting that Konnan noted on his podcast that Mysterio was open to a part-time WWE schedule, and that he wouldn’t return to AAA because of a money issue that needs to be worked out. It was said the fact that Mysterio, who left a year ago with no intentions of returning to WWE, now considering a WWE return, “speaks volumes” about the situation.

Ok, I'm going to be the twat in this thread. I have NEVER got the attraction with Mysterio... I'm pretty sure it's because of the way WWE used him for years though. The way they presented him put me off Lucha Libre as a staff, wrestling style and as a motherfukking crew... and I've only just realised the error of my ways thanks to Lucha Underground.

Now I've been put onto fukking PENTAGON and the hermanos, I have a nagging itch that I've missed out on untold greatness from Mysterio, all because Cokeboy has no idea how to book Latinos as anything other than flippy, spinny underdogs that are only a couple of grades above Hornswaggle.

Unless Rey needs the money I don't know what either parties gain. LU seems to be making him a huge deal and at this point in his career, I'd think he'd appreciate being a major player and stakeholder.

Prime Rey Mysterio was one of the best in the business and amazing in the ring. Current day 41 year old Rey Mysterio with almost double digit knee surgeries is epitomized. I don't care how many stem cells they put in your knee. Enough is enough. He should just be glad that he can still walk properly.
