Wonder why those ships aren’t being rerouted to Houston, Baltimore, NYC, Norfolk, etc.

You realize Central America exists right? The ships can’t just sail all the way around South America to get to the east coast of the United States.

They can, or they can use the Panama Canal.
One of the reasons for widening the canal was for larger ships go directly to east coast ports.
