Tony Porter: A call to men
Growing up, Tony Porter says that he got message loud and clear: that men are in charge — women are not — and that anger is the only emotion it’s okay to express. At TEDWomen, Porter calls this “twisted,” because how could it not lead to the disrespect, mistreatment and abuse of women? In this talk, Porter asks men to get out of this “man box” and boldly act in ways counter to what they’ve been taught.

Edit: judging by some of the comments... Most of you didn't actually watch the video.

You're just ranting about the title and description.

It's important to actually watch the video.

Taught?

I was raised by a single mother. I was there for her through thick and thin. She's in charge as far as I'm concerned.

If I've developed any sense of "self pride" that could contribute to the idea of a gender hierarchy... I'd say it's been built in ever since I've dated modern women.

Everything up to 00:34 was true. Be the man, no emotions, etc. What we have as an issue is not enough men raising boys into not
just being a man, but being thoughtful, compassionate, and flexible, with the ability to put his foot down.

Society as a whole is to blame for this, people working longer hours and whatnot, the effort required to properly raise young men may seem too daunting
for folks. I know this personally as I lacked male guidance and it for damn sure took me longer to learn lessons and principles that my father should have
had on tap for me. I never objectified women or saw them as inferior, at least not to the extreme, but in the hood when the hormones kicked in, EVERY dude
was just trying to fukk and run. Can't speak to their homelives, but it was all we had to look forward to.

i cant speak for his old ass but the younger generations of black males are being raised to believe the exact opposite; women are in charge, men are not.

Did you watch the video? What do you think of "The Man Box" perspective he used?

the most capable should lead

I willingly admit when a person is superior in any facet

the thing is that in pretty much any category the most capable individual is male

now any individual whether female or male deserves to occupy the space equal to their capcity/capability

but for chicks complaining that they want more just cause they feel like they should have it:stopitslime:
:camby:fukk outta here and stop ya bloodclot cryin

you get what you can earn
you make what you can take:yeshrug:

:myman:if you wanna blame somebody blame mother nature+

is this a bad thing? or is it only ok for men to be in charge?
The thing about it is, its great for women to step up and have the ability to do a lot of the things men do. The problem
arises when men and women become adversaries. The dynamic is more toxic than "Man vs Man" because the existence
of man is pretty much predicated on leading. If women are life-givers AND breadwinners, the man is not a man.

BTW, hi!:krs: You've turned into an orange since I left....:mjpls:
