I'm not watching the video but based on your summary she didn't say anything I haven't already said in here:pachaha:

Although her views in the first point deviate from mine in a few ways. Male/Female power fantasies are a bit more nuanced than that

Male stories, essentially the heroes journey, are a vehicle for boys and men to be forced out of their comfort zone and into the dangers of the real world. You will try and fail but if you get up and get better, there are rewards on the other side of that danger

Female stories are centered on revelation of beauty, internally and externally. The world is brutal and everyone is stupid and blocking you from happiness. But eventually someone will come along and show you you're perfect just the way you are

Conflict of interest:pachaha:

In male stories the obstacle is his own incompetence, in female stories the obstacle is the incompetence of others

So you had all of these bitter millennial "I hate my parents" feminist writers invade the industry and essentially destroy male stories. It's the ideological version of your sister storming in your room and breaking all of your toys

This post already too long but I'll reiterate that Kill Bill is my favorite movie, and it contains the heroes journey, but it's accomplished without turning trying to turn The Bride into a man. So you definitely can have female heroes that appeal to men, but that wasn't the goal of the bitter millennial feminists
One of the best posts on thecoli.

It's why K-Pop Demon Hunters worked beautifully, #goals type bodies, make-up, fit, and they were extremely feminine while opening that can of whoop ass...you had all demos of women from ages 3 to 93 wanting to be Rumi, Zoey, or Mira.

And they were unapologetically in love with literal demons and were ready for the D....

It's women being women and what do you know? It was a home run with the audience...

Yea, K-Pop is a great example. It’s a completely different genre (in a sense) than, say, live-action Barbie, yet you can see the commonalities that made both major hits with the same target audience marvel continuously fails to capture :mjlol:

I was bringing this point up in an Arcadian thread the other day about Tomb Raider; that there was never much depth to the OG version of Lara Croft 30 yrs ago yet she was a hit with females bc to the first point I listed she was made to be hot, fit, very confident but also very feminine.

I was saying that the rebooted version in the more storytelling era of video games (last 15 years) the developers didn’t know what to do with her narratively other than feeling the need to desexualize her… and basically made a lot of the same mistakes being made with movie heroines.

Unsurprisingly they are on their umpteenth reboot attempt with failed movies, cartoons, and attempting another game :pachaha:
