Yeah the non mask scenes are very dull and boring. I was trying to watch it with my kids but they got bored. Then they perked up when he put on the mask. I was never a big fan of this movie and hadn't even tried to watch it in many years. Diaz looked hot tho, before she got too skinny and lost her youthful face.

I remember when I was in my single digits, I saw a copy of The Mask comic book on the shelf at the grocery store (when they, along with gas stations, sold comics ) and of course, loving the hell out of the movie, I bought it. I opened up the book to start reading, and to my horrified surprise, there were panels with a man cutting his own face off. What an eye opener.

Del Toro would have been perfect. He can pull off the dark humor and violence. He also does well with visual effects
