I thought it was a terrible ending when I first saw it. I sat there like

The folks in the car had decided all hope was lost and they weren't living in a country run by woke liberal monsters, and they weren't giving antifa the satisfaction of taking them out.... They decided to off themselves, and right after dude killed everybody including his son, and before he commited himself; the calvary rolled in.

I know it was supposed to be a message to never give up hope. It just came across as pure bliss for people who are into schadenfaude.

I seen it in theaters opening week end.

Only thing comparable, but on the opposite end of the spectrum as far as crowd reaction, was "The Mist".

For some inexplicable reason....possibly because horror movies are traditionally "date night movies", I dunno....there was a gang of couples at that movie.
Afterwards, the whole lobby was filled with crying women talking about "why the fukk did you take me to see this?"....with the men looking around with their hands in their pockets like

It’s definitely one of the best endings ever. Se7en has to be number 1 but I love the Truman show ending
