I don't buy the "it can't be replicated" idea.

there is an interview joe rogan did with neil tyson where he was asking him the same question and neil explained it pretty good. It's not really that it couldn't be replicated under any circumstance but it's just that it certainly won't be replicated just because NASA needs something to do. The reason why they were going so hard was because of the whole space race thing. Over time i think their budgets were cut and they decided to focus more on robotics. There is really nothing of value to be gained on the moon without a massive increase in our technological capability specifically in the area of creating energy. For example mining, picture how you would get one of those massive bulldozers that are used for regular mining on earth, to operate at full capacity on the moon, and that is just the vehicle that transports rubble. The entire operation is a mindfuk
i think NASA did the right thing by focusing on the shuttles and the ISS, hubble etc.
