During that same time, Black veterans of WWII were often denied GI benefits that ultimately helped white prosper (education, loans, and etc).

Also, that was during the same time as many of the New Deal programs that came into fruition from FDR...blacks were barred from them and is yet another reason for the unapproachable wealth divide and gap in America....

  • I can only guess the generational wealth dating back to the New Deal in the 1910's whites accumulated. :banderas:

  • Too bad they only gave us bread crumbs called public housing (i.e. low income housing) & government assistance.

  • I'm not ready to be a #NewBlack just yet. I'm a Pharmacist making 120k a year and after Zimmerman became an American hero, I couldn't help feel like an #OldBlack.

  • I'm not ready to be a #NewBlack just yet. Too many of the #OldBlacks still living in despair, I rather be with them.

Interesting concept

I'm already having to learn; we have to destroy poverty to build us up

That lack of financial power is hurting us

Finances are a part of it but we need political power, especially in areas that are predominantly black.

You crossed out money but how do you think you get that power sir?

We need every kind of power. I crossed it out just to put an emphasis on what I think we should do given the capital. Finances are a huge part and there is no denying that. However, there are other ways for black people to gain influence without coming out of pocket, as many cannot afford to do. The effectiveness of taking another route is questionable, though. The black community has no problem with long shots.

Adaquate representation is needed but we need to focus on the youth. We need to become teachers, whether professionally or volunteer to teach non-black children. That's just an example. If we can maintain a large presence in education, we're golden.

You won't get political influence without money.
I'm well aware but the supreme court has just made it blatantly obvious that we're not going to be a factor* in the federal government unless we get all of our entertainers and athletes to write checks (and even then...), so I'm suggesting a focus on education as an example. I'm being more ideological, which equates to blowing hot air when it comes to this topic, but I'm still going to cook.

If we can dominate a field with black bodies, that counts as a coup. If most teachers are black, then we control education for better or worse. The same could be true for the police force if we are organized correctly. It goes without saying that there is strength in numbers but through education we are able to shape who participates in the government and what they believe to an extent.

I'm not saying this is THE way to go about it, I'm just arguing that it's not all about money.

*shoutout to the first amendment. :salute:

I can't tell you how many debates I've won just by telling people about Redlining. It's amazing how many people feel qualified to have debates about the current state of the black community when they know NOTHING about the factors that led us here

IT IS SO CRAZY.

I'm actually ashamed if anyone comes in this thread surprised at anything in that article.

YASSSSSS!!!! I feel the same way. No matter how much success I have, if the majority of my people are still struggling just to maintain, I have not made it yet! Heck, despite all of my accomplishment, when an "other" sees me, they see the same old black so that is who I'll be.

You can't ignore VA and FHA loans, this is why so many whites were able to pass down wealth to their children, beause they were able to buy a house and secure their financial future.

Whereas, Blacks just stayed in the Ghettos (i.e. low income housing).

#OldWhite vs #NewBlack

Don't forget the FDA denying black farmers loans and granting them to whites instead.

But hey, we just need to invest in some bootstraps and stop complaining :mjpls:
