The Chronic.

Hear me out.

I was straight East Coast Boom Bap Rappity Rap. I liked spitters from anywhere. Cube. Face. But mostly I was Das Efx Onyx LeadersONS Tribe Wu Mobb.

The reason the Chronic irritates me is because mostly the barz are not great. Snoop be freestyling and shyt.

The production is top notch of course. And now I appreciate it as a classic.

But look at Dre 2001. High lever production AND barz. Even Dre was killing it.

Nas' Nastradamus album...

That album had to grow on me after a while.

It became one of my top 5 Nas albums ever !!!

Shoot Em Up is a another Nas' track that I can appreciate more nowadays.

Dude made a song about shooting someone into a Christmas Carol.

Even the cover was dope after closely dissecting it.

Nas was looking like a Black Jedi Master

Dre and Snoop were saying a lot of homoerotic things...

"Gap teeth in yo mouth so my dikks got to fit"

Dre talking about Luke

I Am by Nas. It’s still mid at best, imho…but man, I was super duper disappointed when it dropped and I heard it, thought it was trash back then. Has like 3 straight classics on there (NYSOM2, Nas is Like, Hate me Now) surrounded by a bunch of mid to pretty good jawns, it’s solid to me now tho, like 3.5 outta 5. The real I Am that he intended on dropping before the bootleggers got crazy was straight 🔥 tho.

Hell On Earth lol.

When it dropped my music tastes were all over the map. I was on a heavy down south, west coast and midwest kick as well as catching up on all the old classics. When I finally started fukking with East Coast heavy Big, Jay, Nas, AZ, Kim. Foxy were more appealing to me. I was more into the flashier more polished sound. Even then The Infamous was one of the greatest albums I heard but for some reason Hell On Earth never grabbed me like that. Lately I ran it back and it hit and I've played it at least 10 times since then.

I didn't ever hate it but similar to you I was a hardcore East coast head and just wasn't checking for it.
But one summer Death Row was having a concert in the Tri-State area and Hot 97 was playing this promo that had the Chronic funky worm sounding flutes intro in it and I started liking it so I bought the album. I worked at a liquor store at the time and I banged that shyt all summer in there it was dope! I was a certified Death Row records fan after that Dre's production was undeniable and I was going thru it with some female so the bytches Ain't Shyt attitude of the album really resonated at the time. Album lead me back to NWA who I never really liked and I also banged Niqqaz4Life that summer and realized why Dre is one of the best.

First N.E.R.D album is the poster boy for this for me.

Album sounded nothing like I thought it was going to as a huge Neptune's fan.

On first listen I was like what tf is this :scust: but it was moreso from a "Neptune's" mindset.

I went into the album expecting the "Neptune's sound" not really realizing that this was going to be a completely different sound.

I sat with the album again and it ended up being one of my favorites ever.

Very dope album.

Drake Nothing was the same album. Didn’t like it too much at first, especially the singles. But I gave it another listen and got a new respect for it. That’s a solid album

Yeah. He had the task of trying to follow up the most anticipated Hip Hop album of that time and he was coming off the heels of his trial.

It was damn near no way Snoop was ever going to record an album that lived up to what the masses wanted. and then with Dre being gone.

but all things considered, if the album is judged on it's own merit and not the previous album, Snoop made the best album he could

yeah, that back cover would've worked better
