About the topic of the post, I don't know what to tell you. There's a lot but too much to type out. I'd just do my research. If believe the good outweighs the bad (and there are many for both) and want to join up, go for it.
personally i would suggest you start readin into the 5% Nation of Gods and Earths
Salam brother, you need to get more involved with your local mosque and talk to them, I am technically a Sunni too brother, but I follow the Koran and Hadith, I dont get involved with Sunni, shia, sufi, etc..because at the end of the day we are supposed to be Muslim. NOI has some teachings that are not really islamic brother, tread carefully.
Those people are some of the cleanest (mentally and physically) we have in the U.S. I'm not religious at all , but if I had to choose id align myself with them. Message to the Blackman is some of the realest shyt ever printed.. I graduated college and theres some stuff in there that flys way over my head. There's this misconception that Malcolm X was the young vibrant intellectual , and Elijah was just some jealous old man..People should really read Message to the Blackman or watch some of Elijah's interviews before they judge. I buy one of those NOI newspapers whenever I see brothas out selling them , and try to support as much as I can. These men are really out here trying to make a difference.

My father use to belong to the nation of Islam while I was growing up. It gave me the opportunity to read books like how to eat to live, some parts of the Quran and learn about figures like noble drew Ali. In 2nd grade, he actually had me do a report on him. Imagine while a bunch of kids are doing reports on typical black historical figures like Frederick Douglass, MLK Jr and the like, I came to school with a 5 page paper titled “Who is Noble Drew Ali”. I also seen Farrakhan speak at the NOI armory when I was younger.
