the NBA should have one player on each team that doesn't count against the cap

That can make an unlimited salary. So someone like Bron or KD could make 100 million a season if a team was willing yo pay that. This would end all this gay ass super team shyt. No one is taking a pay cut it a team is offering them 80 million a season.

When you factor in endorsements and outside business investments to dudes like Bron and KD, I dont think paycuts become as big a deal

But if ur the best in the world at your profession, there shouldn't be a limit in how much u can earn. That's how it works in a free market society.

There's no salary cap for the best doctor or best lawyer or best CEO.

hell, there's no cap on how much profit these team owners can make. So why is there one on LeBron's NBA salary???

Cap limits in sports help the lesser players and owners. But hurt the Stars.

How exactly would it end superteams?

It'd actually make it easier to create said teams.
If they kept the limit on salaries currently in place then players would have to decide to sign for 35% of cap versus signing with another team that still has its unlimited slot. So say 30 million versus 50 or 60 million. It'll at least keep superstars away from each other.

What would stop a team like Golden State from devising a system where players rotate being the unlimited salary player? or abusing the amnesty clause?

And what exactly is the point of keeping superstars away from each other anyway?

i'm having a deja vu i swear i seen this before.

Pat Riley talked about this a couple years ago during the Wade debacle. He called it a ″franchise tag″ even though it's nothing like the NFL's version.

“I believe that there should be a franchise tag on one of your guys. My opinion of a franchise tag – this is why they don’t allow me to talk and give opinions in the Collective Bargaining Agreement – is that a franchise player to me would be a player in which you can pay him as much money as you want.

It doesn’t go against the cap. Everybody gets one player, that Kevin [Durant] you get 50 [million], LeBron you get 100 [million]. Somewhere along the way there are players in this league that are worth that kind of money. Or there’s a limit on that. But if you franchise somebody then you have the ability to protect [against your star player leaving for a super team.]”

good idea in theory, but the recent complaints about John wall’s contract have me :yeshrug: :patrice:
what’s gonna happen is teams are gonna give 40-50% of their cap to some draft hero who turns out to be injury prone or incapable of leading a team

I think the premise of the thread is that this person doesn’t count against the cap at all

At least that’s how I interpreted it
