People talk about NFL TV rating, but this is what an NFL schedule looks like.

:yeshrug: It's not what you guys are making it seem. You have no choice but to watch football on Sunday. On Monday and Thursday, it's one game each.

The poll asked if they “followed” the league. People who don’t follow the NFL still watch the games because they are social events. NBA games are not social events. If you are watching an NBA game you are most likely a legit fan of the sport.

Polls like this are disingenuous because they don't include CFB and CBB which are 2 of the biggest sports in America

nba has the opportunity to evolve

the tickets sales & broadcast ratings are the old world

they may never catch up there

but they have cultural currency like a motherfukker

the most valuable thing they have is the star.staus of nba players

it's so much to sell beyond just tickets & television viewership

it's a whole world of customers

it's bigger than the nba to be real

hoops is a culturally unifying force period

it's park runs on youtube with millions of views

the summer tournament pro.am scene celebrity leagues 3v3 1v1 etcetera

there are courts on every block & basketball shoes on every foot shyte even nikkas on the gridiron wearing hoopers signature models with studs on the sole ha

nba is like the peak of a much larger iceberg

the suits are just generally out of touch & not seeing the whole picture

This.

i also think the nba would benefit from not overlapping their schedule with the nfl. Like what if the nab season started in February and ran through the summer . Folks really enjoyed the bubble season that was played in the summer. Basketball during the summer was dope
I've been saying for years that the NBA season should start in January

It will never happen. The NFL promotes a product. If the Jets played the Panthers in the superbowl, millions would still watch. shyt, we just had a Rams vs Bengals superbowl. People were bytching and complaining about the great Suns vs Bucks finals we just had. When you have diffeent teams in the NBA reaching the finals every year, it hurts the product, because bandwagoners don't have the money to keep buying new gear every year. They switch every 4 or 5 years with lebron hopping from team to team, but it is proof that the most competitive era in the NBA almost killed the NBA. The 70s saw 8 different teams win the NBA finals. Almost ruined it, until stern started rigging lotteries to create powerhouses. Then you have the 80s with the Lakers winning 5 while going to the finals 8 times, the Celticd winning 3 while going to the finals 5 times. And then the 90s with the rule changes, officiating, and protection of Jordan to give him this Godly status. Then after Jordan retired, The Spurs won in 99 and it was back to cheating for the Lakers again placing them in the finals. Fast forward to the 2010s, the NBA is back competitive again after Lebron leaves Miami.. The west is strong, the East got good squads and then KD pulls one ofthe biggest bytch moves in NBA history overtaking Lebron's bytch move and once again ruins the league..

The NBA doesn't want a competitive league. They want a team everyone bandwagons and just as many people hate that team so both sides will pay to watch them win or lose. Females don't like watching competitive sports. They need a team that everyone loves so they can cling to(while not being able to name 3 players from the team) and most dudes follow what females do. I have been all over the world and I have never in my life met a Warriors fan until 2015 until I was damn near 40 years old. So the NBA is gonna keep picking a few players every year to give outrageous calls to promoting them and the NFL will continue to promote the product of football.

Oh hell no. :mjlol:

The NBA had its closest chance to overtake the NFL in the 2010's when certain teams/players were looking very promising in carrying the league and the NFL was starting to get hurt with the increasing focus on CTE and the kneeling controversy.

But, since COVID, there's been no chance in hell that the NBA will overtake the NFL. Too many people feel the product has been watered down and many of the younger fans of the NBA don't even watch the games but go off of stats and highlights to form opinions which hurts TV ratings too. At least the younger fans of the NFL will actually watch the damn games.

It gets deeper too when you factor in how the NFL has far fewer games for people to follow, more genuine team fans, has Sundays on lockdown, gambling, is more accessible to female viewers, and has a cultural stranglehold on the South/Midwest in ways that the NBA doesn't have in the Northeast/West Coast.

When Bron and Curry retire, the gap will grow even wider.
