Brought a title to Detroit and went to six straight conference finals.... the guy at least knows what he's doing on a fundamental level.

Did he have some stinkers there at the end(Charlie Villanueva? Josh Smith? Ben Gordon?) sure but he was pretty good most of the time. No issue with the Pelicans bringing him in

Tin foil hat thoughts: Dumars was brought in by ownership to facilitate a Zion Williamson trade and be the fall guy for inevitable backlash.

I don’t know about that. It feels like many Pelican fans maybe done with the Zion B.S but I’m not really sure.

He super fell apart at the end and did absolutely nothing to change the perception of the pistons as a franchise where superstars could go..spending that money on those 4 guys, and having faith in guys like Drummond, will bynum, Jason Maxiell, and Greg Monroe, just made Detroit look stupid and low rent.

His obsession of mid ass guards like Jose Calderon, Brandon knight, bynum, Rodney stucky was bad, as was his inability to identify a good coach after Flip.

He has serious flaws as a basketball exec

Didn't Dumars pass on Melo for Darko once upon a time? Is this hire really an exciting one if you're a Pelicans fan???

2004 was a long time ago and I would have preferred someone younger as opposed to an older retread guy whose last big success was over 20 years ago.

Dumars is a Louisiana guy though, so I get it and he’s probably forgot more about basketball than I know.

I do think it’s time to move on from Zion and Brandon Ingram. Those guys are hurt every year and barely play together. Move those guys and see if you can get some picks and bench players to fill out the roster and build over the next few years through the draft similar to OKC’s formula.

I don't think the Pelicans are in any position to let great be the enemy of good. Is Presti available? Is he leaving OKC to go to Detroit? Is Tim Connelly? You wanna hire Bob Myers?

Zion's been in the league six whole years and has played over 30 games in a season twice. I think it's safe to say if he ever puts it all together it's not gonna be in New Orleans.

Yea, he was the best GM in the league the first half of his tenure, and then became one of the worst after the Chauncey trade.

He also doesn't believe in rebuilding or tanking, unless he's changed his mindset, so will be interesting to see what moves he makes.
