Just music, not popularity.

Kendrick (classic album, flows)
Gibbs (that flow, bfk and cocaine pinanta are so good)
Spark Master Tape (such an original sound)
Isaiah Rashad (just blends south, east and west so well for me)
A$AP (mixtape was fire, and got a nice sound, even though sounding like that from harlem is a little scusthov)

1. Kendrick Lamar (2005?- present) - O.verly D.edicated, Section.80 and GKMC
2. Big K.R.I.T. (2007?-present) - King Remembered in Time, Live from the Underground, 4eva N a Day
3. Joey Bada$$ (2010-present) - 1999 and Summer Knights
4.
Action Bronson (2008-present) - Well Done, Blue Chips 2 and Rare Chandeliers
5.
Los (2005?-present) - Zero Gravity, the Crown Ain't Safe, The Louis Vuitton Gift Pack

I can't give just a top five though, Pro ERA, Clear Soul Forces, Kooley High, J. Cole, Dizzy Wright, Jarren Benton, Jon Connor, Chance the Rapper, Fred the Godson, kids like Ezzy, Booby, Dizzle Dizz, Young Savage, Astro. Its hard to choose with such a glut of talent. At least there's proof that hip-hops not dead. Just radio.

Kendrick - I think his greatest strength is that he's very creative in his approach to music. One of the more versatile cats out there.
He won't wow you with his lyrics but his "simplest shyt be more pivotal". Has a positive message so he gets points for that too

Drake - Soft and emotional but the guy seems very authentic to me and knows who he is, which reflects in his music. Very good writer, knows how to put a song together

Curren$y - IMO is a genius at creating an atmosphere that caters to his rapping style. His raps are littered with jewels on life. Wordplay (especially back in the day) is silly. Pretty relatable guy too

Wale - Don't even listen to this guy like that but I think he's easily one of the most talented writers out there

Nipsey - Gives you that raw, street-flavored rap but still maintains a level of consciousness. Love the messages he tries to put out there

In no particular order. Each of these people make good music and are inspiring IMO.

KRIT could have been up there but I haven't been feeling his last two projects. His sound doesn't seem to have evolved much over the years. J.Cole is a technically great rapper but a meh artist
