Now compared to the original ball by Spadling this one is half an oz lighter.
not only is it lighter but it had a "dead" bounce, unlike the lively spring-like bounce of the Spalding.
It's also a rounder ball than the spalding - that is to say it's smoother. The spalding had thicker panels which made it less smooth but offered more places to grip the ball.
These features make the ball easier to maker shots with- dead bounce and smoother = more forgiving on the rim and better feel/control on the release.
The dead bounce also makes it easier to cross over and overall, pound-dribble with more accuracy.
