It's an oft made comparison

What do you think?

I put myself in the shoes of draftee and I'm not sure that I'd turn down the opportunity to go pro solely because of the slave connotations (which are valid and not to be diminished). I'd get my paper and raise my family/community.

But isnt that the very definition of a "sellout"? Selling out my soul and dignity, and knowing it, but doing it anyway?

Dumb and disrespectful comparison

no just no, please don't compare this to slavery or reference anything saying so.

There's no question as to there being parallels between the NFL DRAFT, and the trading of Black slaves.

That is not for debate. One more denial of it and I'm going to question if you're even BLACK.

The discussion pertains to what should these athletes do in response? I mean can we really expect them to just not play pro ball? fukk no. I wouldnt sit out either. But then what, how do we approach this? Or do we say fukk it and keep letting cacs have their mock slave trades? Long as they're paying us, right?

FOH

I bet kunta kinte would gladly trade working 20 hours a day picking cotton, taking whippings, no food, water, clean clothes, nutrition, etc... to play for the browns where he will make more than 99% of people on the planet. FOH :camby:

Im not black.

The parallel would be them being judged for their athletic ability/strength. Beyond that its an incredibly terrible comparison

You choose to go in the NFL draft. You become a millionaire and you play a game. You can skip the combine and all workouts

Slaves had no choice, slaves had their lives and freedom of will stolen from them and endured some of the worst treatment in the history of mankind.

Its disrespectful to compare what they went through to running a 40 and doing a vertical jump

Right.

Being measured and tested athletically to have a chance to make millions of dollars, go places many people never go, have access to many amenities in destinations that people don't have, and have many people looking up to you is certainly the same as working 20 hours a day in a cotton field, getting raped by a slave master, and then getting whipped for no reason other than being black.
