Ron Harper is right, there isn't any good reason to have a 10:30 pm ET game on Christmas. Never has been.

I want 6 games next year! 3 on NBC 3 on ABC :blessed:

9:00 AM - first game
10:30PM - last game
The nfl doesn’t owe the nba anything this is a business lmao
Goodell and Stern had a handshake agreement to not infringe on eachothers days

Its funny how fast popularity changes. The Nfl was criticized for being too woke with the kneeling, CTE scandals, bad refs, too many flags and replays. Nobody watched the WNBA and it was a laughingstock, now everybody cant wait for it. The NBA was eating good with prime Lebron and the Warriors dynasty.

All these leagues are pretty much the same as before, just different stars capturing the attention of the public.

You can’t feed people trash for years and then be surprised when they don’t show up the one day you serve something good.

The NBA has a long road ahead of itself to earn back the trust of casuals.

Here’s your answer but you knew this lol
The NFL feeds audiences mediocrity and trash all the time, people just don’t care. They will watch regardless, which is fine. The existence of TNF alone is proof of that

It’s an uneven comparison because one league has to do way less to win over casuals

One league has spent its existence stressing the importance of every game and team success. The other league tells you the regular season games don’t matter almost on a daily basis and had to institute player and organizational punishments to force players to actually play.

People pick up on that and have understandably chosen to consume the product they feel has importance/urgency/relevance. The NBA has no one to blame but themselves for their place in public opinion.

This is only a half-truth.

The real truth is back before there wasn't any mass public opinion over what was stressed between the NFL and NBA, the NFL became this country's favorite pastime in the 60s/70s (overtaking baseball), because it became more of a reflection of the country at the time parlayed with its hunger for violence. It had absolutely nothing to do with one league stressing importance of every game vs. a league that tells you the regular season doesn't matter, because back then that wasn't even a thing on a grand scale.

What you're highlighting are red herrings.

It's the reason why nothing has touched the NFL for half a century in that regard.
The NBA has no one to blame but themselves for their place in public opinion.
Even if the NBA chose to do all these things that you swear the NFL does, it still wouldn't be more relevant/important than the NFL (or even on the same level).

The NBA did sell its soul off MJ's image, but by and large, it had no choice.

It doesn't have the safety net that the NFL has. When folks watch the NFL they see America; it's why they'll defend it no matter how good/bad the product is. Whereas when folks watch the NBA, they merely see players trying to put a ball in a hoop; it's why they'll criticize it no matter how good/bad the product is.

Does the NBA tell audiences not to watch regular season games or do talking heads not employed by the league tell you that?

The NFL was significantly more popular than the NBA in the U.S. prior to load management, it’s hardly a cause

The most watched NBA regular season game of the 21st century got 13 million viewers. TNF this season is averaging 14 million. The two leagues have never been on equal footing, the NBA has always had to work harder to attract casual viewers in America

It's the ratings that matter not how good the games were. Netflix made a killing.

If the games were on CBS, Fox, or NBC the NBA would've gotten slaughtered.
Had the games been trash it would’ve been another PR hit for the league.
