I dont get it though

not much has changed yet it seems people are moving on

1. different generations have differing interest. Millennials are different. Football is violent and some of them don't get the appeal.
2. Consider guys like Manning, and many others we came of age with are leaving/retiring and more importantly not being replaced by new superstars. So some ppl just gradually lose interest as their fav players all start to fade. That leaves millennials to pick up the slack.
3. It's all hyped up, then you get a prime-time game that's a 3 hour dud. People would rather watch their TV shows(TV is high quality right now) and catch sports highlights on Vine or Twitter.
4. The on-field product simply isn't that great

It moves along at a slow ass pace, like: completion, wait for refs to set second down marker, huddle, walk to the line slow, do a bunch of crazy leg hikes and say a bunch of code words, take a timeout.

Close up of coach that took timeout

Huddle, slow walk to the line, receiver goes in motion, receiver sets, quarterback points at opponent and says some gibberish,

Yellow flag on the field,

Quarterback hikes the ball, takes a "free play" which is basically a shytty pass down field..

Delay of game penalty.

Still, second down.

Huddle.,
