They already did those events. The heptathlon works on points. You dont get a medal for each event.

LONDON — Judging from this year’s performances, Lolo Jones seems to have only a slim chance of winning an Olympic medal in the 100-meter hurdles and almost no possibility of winning gold.

Still, Jones has received far greater publicity than any other American track and field athlete competing in the London Games. This was based not on achievement but on her exotic beauty and on a sad and cynical marketing campaign. Essentially, Jones has decided she will be whatever anyone wants her to be — vixen, virgin, victim — to draw attention to herself and the many products she endorses.

Women have struggled for decades to be appreciated as athletes. For the first time at these Games, every competing nation has sent a female participant. But Jones is not assured enough with her hurdling or her compelling story of perseverance. So she has played into the persistent, demeaning notion that women are worthy as athletes only if they have sex appeal. And, too often, the news media have played right along with her.

Doping case

On July 29, 2006 Justin Gatlin told the media that he had been informed by the USADA that he had given a positive doping test in April the same year. He did, however, claim his innocence in the matter: "I cannot account for these results, because I have never knowingly used any banned substance or authorized anyone to administer such a substance to me."[6]

It is believed that the substance that Gatlin has tested positive for was "testosterone or its precursor."[7] The failed test was revealed after a relay race on April 22, 2006 in Lawrence, Kansas. The "B" sample was confirmed as positive in July.

Gatlin is coached by Trevor Graham. Among athletes Graham has coached, eight have tested positive or received bans for performance enhancing drugs.[8] After Gatlin's failed test, Graham stated in an interview that Gatlin had been sabotaged.[9] Specifically, he blamed massage therapist Christopher Whetstine, for rubbing a creme with testosterone onto Gatlin without his knowledge. The therapist denied this claim, saying: "Trevor Graham is not speaking on behalf of Justin Gatlin and the story about me is not true."[10]

On August 22, 2006 Gatlin agreed to an eight-year ban from track and field, avoiding a lifetime ban in exchange for his cooperation with the doping authorities, and because of the "exceptional circumstances" surrounding his first positive drug test.[11] However, on December 31, 2007, in the final ruling, Gatlin received a four-year ban from athletics. Furthermore, his 9.77 performance, set in May 2006, was annulled.

Dude is suspect. He should be tested immediately if he happens to medal.

LONDON — Britain’s Dwain Chambers waited 12 years to get back to the Olympics. It could end up being a triumphant return.

Chambers, whose lifetime ban as a doping offender was overturned in May, won his 100-meter heat in 10.02 seconds Saturday. He advanced to Sunday’s semifinals, along with favorites Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell, Tyson Gay and Justin Gatlin.
