You're missing my point. Who cares who excels in a stroke that isn't the fastest way to swim?
I'm impressed by "this guy is the fastest swimmer alive over ____ distance". I'm not as impressed by "this guy is the fastest but only if everyone swims using a less efficient technique"

Hurdles and steeplechase isn't the same at all. They're still moving as fast as they can, there are just obstacles in the way.
The Racewalk is stupid for the exact same reason the Breast Stroke is stupid.

The Breaststroke is a different technique that require wholly different skills and muscles than the freestyle or backstroke. Swimmers can only manage to master 1 or 2 strokes. That's why you don't see Phelps doing backstroke or breaststroke events (But he does do individual medleys).
It's no different than having Judo and Taekwondo in the Olympics. Both sports determine who the best fighters are.

No they won't, they disowned the sport they created from their mental concious like a red headed step child because they always lose on the national stage in it.
While we still dominate in the sports we created(volleyball, basketball).
