DSJ to the Kings, you've heard it here first.
phil doesnt do small point guards...at all.You think he makes it past Orlando and the Knicks?
I can see the Kings taking Makkanen and than selecting whatever PG is leftover at 10.

So paying Lowry the max just to win 45 games at most and go out in the first round when Simmons Embid Saric (Monk and say Dennis Smith) and company could win 40 alone.A rookie is supposed to lead them to the playoffs? They are a young team, getting Lowry guarantees that they make the playoffs while the players develop. There is no guarantee they make the playoffs when their rotation of players averages 23 years old, Covington would be the oldest starter at 26 and even he has never been to the playoffs.
but they won't.So paying Lowry the max just to win 45 games at most and go out in the first round when Simmons Embid Saric (Monk and say Dennis Smith) and company could win 40 alone.

Save that money and go after a younger player or. Someone like Avery Bradly or Marcus Smart will be free agents sooner than later and will probably fit in better. I know the homecoming angle with Lowry is good and all but if I'ma GM no way am I committing to him for 4 or 5 years. If the playoffs are the goal for next year why wouldn't you go after Lowry? I don't see how 4 years would negatively affect them, because Simmons extension wont even kick in until a year after that.
They are about to give Covington big money this summer, and once you commit to him like that the playoffs have to be the end goal. Also, I don't see how you can just pencil them in for 40 wins, 2 years ago the Jazz won 38, then the next year they won 40. They have loads of young players & draft picks owed to them, signing Lowry in no way hurts them, especially if they get Fultz or Ball, either of which would be able to play with Lowry.
You don't know that. With a healthy season from Ben and Embid (who has already shown he is a difference maker) along with the rookies they get and the improvement from Saric that the 28 games they won this season cant be 40 next year. They won 18 more games this year so why cant they win 12 more if their guys are good as advertised.but they won't.

If you don't get Lowry guys like Smart or Bradley wouldn't have to worry about coming of the bench. With Ben Dario and whoever they draft they have more than enough ballhandling not to mention if they luck up and grab two of Fox Monk or Fultz. Hell go out and see if you can grab someone like CJ McCollum up for one of the picks but save that money for someone who is more likely to be able to contribute in two years and I don't know if Lowry will make it any longer than that. But if that's who you want on your team then go for it.Neither of those guys are actual PGs, and if they were going to go after anyone other than Lowry at PG it should be a veteran on a short term deal. The problem with getting those younger guys that you're talking about is they will be 27 & 30 by the end of the deal, and you'll have to decide if you want to keep them or not going on their 3rd contracts which could take up as much as 30% of the cap. So, you'll reach a point with them where it will be the Lowry situation, only difference is that core you're talking about will be older and also be going on their 2nd contracts.
If you get Lowry, he's done by the end of his contract and whatever player you draft now may be able to assume the starting role before his 4 years are up. Guys like Bradley or Smart are not going to want to come off the bench because they have another contract to play for.
