Baseball has the worst contracts in all of sports. They need to stop giving out guaranteed deals.

In the NFL, they can cut just about anybody; the NBA and NHL have some bad contracts but it's a small percentage overall with most guys earning their deals.

When you look at the largest MLB contracts, half of them make you go :picard:

Plus all of them are 5-14 years. :picard:

I would rather athletes get grossly overpaid than grossly underpaid.

What NFL players risk and what they go through for that money is sad.

None of these guys are going on welfare. There's too many baseball players who hamstring their teams after signing massive deals. It's gotten out of hand.

The money Anthony Rendon is stealing would be better served on other players. Same with Baez, Bryant, Corbin, Strasburg, etc.

People can say Detroit has an easy start to the schedule.

And they do.

Still, you have to beat the bad teams. Those are the wins that keep you in the hunt when you struggle against the elites of the league.

I would take World Series MVP strasburg off the list. The others I agree with to a degree. Nobody in their right mind should have given Corbin or rendon big money to begin with. At least baez and Bryant had a championship to their names and big talent before the deal

:patrice: Not to be the grammar police, but his use of "pandemic" instead of "epidemic" makes me wonder is this a problem in Japan/Korea? What about Mexican/Cuban leagues? Or is it just a thing here?

I think it's a culture thing Japan/Korea/Mexico/Cuba they're taught to be efficient with their pitches and change speeds even if they can throw heat don't throw hard all the time. And they learn this at a very young age and to train their arms to throw more without throwing hard all the time.

Us Americans think if you throw hard you get outs. The days of Tom Glavin,Greg Maddox,Al Lieter,Jamie Moyer are gone guys who didn't need to throw hard to be effective.

Their pitching is good enough to keep them in the mix in the trash ass Central but their lineup is a joke. They had one run through 17 innings against Pittsburgh and then Bednar had a complete meltdown in the 9th with two HBP, a walk and only nine strikes out of 23 pitches.

That's not a recipe for success. They desperately need a couple tentpole hitters but Scott Harris seemingly has zero interest in that.
