I hit the Pirates game specifically to see the phenom. Kid has an arsenal. They pulled him with two on and it started drizzling on my fly outfit so I dipped. The vociferous booing as I exited PNC told me everything I needed to know. Then a mock roar let me know the reliever finally threw a strike. Then lightning struck near the stadium and the crowd erupted again, cheering for postponement HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHA

I'm trying to get this Tony Gwynn jersey but Mitchell & Ness is playing games

Sometimes I look at his baseball-reference page and marvel at his numbers

Now y'all know I'm a batting average historian, but Gwynn came up in 1982, played 54 games, hit .289.....and never hit below .300 again

In fact, from 1983 - 2001 he had 3,086 hits, .339 BA, 418K's (Sosa and McGuire had 638 K's from 98-99 combined), Gywnn was truly the G.O.A.T

Corbin Carroll is hitting .195 this season with two HRs; five extra base-hits altogether. Julio Rodriguez is hitting .247 with one HR; also five extra base-hits. We've already talked about the Blue Jays guys. Tatis Jr. hasn't been the same since his PED suspension. I think it's terrible for the game how erratic young guys are in baseball. shyt, the same could be said for MVPs.

Imagine if Paolo averaged like 12 a game this year for the Magic or if Wemby put up 13/7 next season.

I don't know how you fix it but that's one of the unspoken reasons baseball has fallen out of the national conversation. There aren't many guys people can grasp onto year after year.

It's the gift and curse of baseball though. The perfect shot is going in 99% of the time. The perfect pass is caught 85% of the time. The perfect contact falls for a hit.... 46.2% of the time? we're really all at the mercy of the baseball gods and it's futile to ever believe we have any control over any of it. It's the dumbest fukkin sport ever and I love that shyt

This might be a forgotten stat, but in 1998 Juan Gonzalez had 101 RBI at the All Star Break (87 games)
He finished with 157 RBI, but for a moment a lot of us thought he had a chance at breaking the all time record (Hack Wilson 191 RBI in 1930)

Sammy Sosa actually led the Majors in 1998 with 158 RBI.
Sosa would get 160 RBI in 2001.

And Manny Ramirez would get to 165 RBI in 1999.

Nobody has cracked 150 RBI since 2007, when Alex Rodriguez had 156.
