Not super in love with trade but happy to see Nimmo go. In Stearns we trust

Looking it up on baseball reference Semien is just a better player. Even with his bad hitting year last season he had a higher WAR than Nimmo. Matter of fact the last 5 seasons his WAR is higher. As a fantasy player, I completely understand this lol but at the same time, his floor is high defensively speaking and maybe with the new hitting coach they can find something. None of the young players are blocked. They'll use him as they see fit.
If not Alonso they get a lefty 1B to pair with Vientos. So what do the Mets do about 1B?
Because if they aren't going to give Alonso the money, they don't have a prospect to fill that position. At least not for 2 years, probably.
And with Vlad Jr off the market, there's nobody else to sign.
Is it that much of a long shot that eventually Soto becomes a 1B considering how weak he is in RF? Or is he destined to DH?
I don't think this takes them out of bringing back Alonso. They can improve the defense everywhere way more now so Soto's defense and Alonso's is less of a problem if the rest of the team is way better. Pete also has the Mets records. Now they can easily stomach Soto in LF with the rest of the OF improving and by the time you'd think Alonso's contract is done, they can think about DH/1B.So what do the Mets do about 1B?

It works for him, Texas is a hitters paradiseAlso props to Stearns for getting Nimmo to wave his no-trade and it not leak to the press.

Place your bets on the next Metropolitan move.
Tucker and Soto on the same team is pretty sick.Bellinger would be the "Brian Cashman" move. A stopgap. Trying to get cute.
Tucker would be the "all in" move.
Is he in that Vlad/Ohtani tier with the money he's asking for? No. But he's a hell of a bat to have around Soto.
