I'll always remember his "Heisman Moment"

That was in that era when the SEC was leaps and bounds above everyone else...OSU was struggling to win meaningful out of conference games, but still dominating the big ten.

As good as Tressel was, he had his flaws. He built his teams to first beat michigan, then win the conference, and then to nationally good. It's literally the exact opposite direction right now with Day.

Spiro is adamant that Urban to MSU was a done deal and the BoT/Haller shot it down. Idk how much of that I believe. Part of me thinks Spiro pushes this agenda b/c he spent like 5 months campaigning for Urban to be hired. If Urban had the itch to coach that bad he could've thrown his name into the Bama mix... 10x easier to turn them around. LSU & USC will be looking for a new coach soon, let's see if he's a candidate for those jobs.

Kirby is making $13.2M, so MSU would have to offer Urban something like $15M. He's probably making $8-9M just to sit around the big noon desk and kick some easy takes around, no portal, no NIL...just doesn't seem like he'd be interested in this era.

With that said, if it's true that Haller did fukk up or stonewall any Urban to MSU efforts he absolutely deserved to be fired and his status as alumni revoked.

I think Haller is a good AD, particularly for non-revenue sports. He got hockey back to being a top tier program, WBB is back to being top 15-20ish, tennis, womens gymnastics...DODGEBALL. But I don't think he excelled at fundraising, and in the NIL era, that's probably the most important.

I've heard goofy rumors that he was fired b/c a 5* guard committed to Maryland this week after a "handshake deal" with Izzo was completed but the NIL wasn't organized.

My thing is why msu, i can understand low expectations, but you gon have to get that needle moving money wise to even get the talent he needs to compete, and it’s no promises just cuz he get the band back or what’s left, that shyt gon work, also buddy got a hard on for Michigan hate and osu dikk so there’s that too

Supposedly there was all the money "lined up" behind Urban to make him the highest paid coach, for whatever assistants he wanted, and top 5/10 NIL. Those donors weren't thrilled with Jonathan Smith being hired instead, thus haven't been willing to open the checkbook for football, and hence why Haller was fired. Again, this is all according to Spiro so....

Urban can turn probably any P4 program with money behind it into a contender within 4-5 years.

I think the AD was fired b/c there's a new University President, who didn't hire Haller, and Haller has seemingly struggled with raising funds, particularly for football NIL. Basketball is significantly easier b/c the program has been stable for 40 years, Izzo has much more fan support, and one of his former players is a multibillionaire. New prez wants "his guy" in there, seemingly someone who is a more capable fundraiser. Haller is a good AD, and in the pre-NIL era, he'd be excellent.
