The academy always wants to feel like it's awarding "important" movies

It's also why I think it's better than the Grammys TBH. It has a standard and it adheres to that. You know an Oscar caliber movie when you see one. They may have had diversity issues, but they had their standard. It's easier to diversify something than to actual come up with a real standard.
