From 3rd place to potentially being out of the tourney to winning the group:wow:.

I love tournament soccer:blessed:
They sat their entire starting lineup assuming Gabon wouldn’t care with nothing to play for. Brought on starters in the second half and it changed the game.

IMMIGRANT TETHERS
CIV has tekkers all over the field. especially on the wing
but i feel they are missing a midfield that dictates the play and controls the game

they need to poach this lil breh from PSG second team for the world cup

he has Vitinha/Pedri aura
can you imagine him dictating and setting balls for Diomande/Diallo/Toure :banderas:
this type of player doesn't deserve to rot on the french bench or even not being called

The real tournament begins now!

RO16 Brackets. My predictions underlined

Side 1

Mali/Tunisia
Senegal
/Sudan

Egypt/Benin
CIV/Burkina Faso
-------------------------------------

Side 2

South Africa/Cameroon
Morocco/Tanzania

Algeria/DRC
Nigeria
/Mozambique

Some very tasty matches ups.

  • CIV vs B. Faso is a proper West African tussle. B Faso has always been there or there about but have failed to take that next step. Massive game ehre.
  • Algeria vs DRC is the standout tie for the round. 4 AFCON titles between the two nations. Both nations are also rediscovering their groove after some years of lackluster performance (more so DRC)
  • SA vs Cameroon. I think SA is playing some of the best football in Africa and mainly from local players in SA. Cameroon, however, look a revitalized side. Very interesting match up
  • Mali vs Tunisa. Rematch of the 2022 WCQ Playoff final. Tunisia qualified at the expense of Mali with a single OG over 180 mins of football. Peak Tunisia. Mali, B. Faso, Gabon and Guinea have perpetually been in that "almost" but "not quite" yet when it comes to winning AFCON or having consistent qualification to the WC. This could be a grudge match for the Malians.

Equatorial Guinea 1 – 3 Algeria

The Desert Warriors withstood the storm of Nzalang Nacional (National Thunder), which was more like a trickle.

Sudan 0 – 2 Burkina Faso

Falcons of Jediane weren't fast enough for Les Étalons (The Stallions).

Gabon 2 – 3 Ivory Coast

Les Panthères (The Panthers) biggest mistake was to try to hunt Les Éléphants (The Elephants).

Mozambique 1 – 2 Cameroon

Les Lions Indomptables (The Indomitable Lions) were simply immune to the poison of Os Mambas (The Mambas).
