Wearing shoes you can get out of quickly helps.
I'll sometimes travel in loafers.

*edit. The shoes thing is sort of an American issue. I realize the security isn't as strict in some countries (I found Canada to be pretty lax). But most US airports require travelers to remove their shoes when going through security.

Online check-in can save you time...even if you do have to check a bag.
There's really not much to it.
Just give yourself time to get to the airport so you're not rushing or worrying. You never know what traffic issues might come up.

And for goodness sake, please shower and be clean before you travel.

check in earlier online and choose your seat on the plane.

make sure your phone and tablet/laptop charged.

Give yourself time to get to the airport.

make sure you weigh your luggage beforehand to make sure you are within the size limit.

dont put liquids etc. in your carry on

Keep a list with all the essentials. I have a toiletry bag that I never unpack( toothpaste, toothbrush, shaving shyt and all my chargers just for travel). Other than that I get my shoes and clothes out the night before.

Japan, but from the 989
Rules to live by..
Flying in the States...get to the airport two hours early in medium major cities. You never know what the traffic is going to be like. Major hubs like NY or LAX...get there at least three hours early.

Getting through security....Have your shyt together. (ID'S, Boarding pass) A little known secret..but TSA will leave you the hell alone if they think you are seasoned to the game. (Taking shoes off, having things organized for the security check point) they mess with first timers and people who are moving too damn slow.

Pick three things you need on you at all times. Now take 2 of them and put them in your pocket. The other one you put in your carry on. The carry on shouldn't be a damn suitcase. Book bags or briefcases only. Don't be that dumb ass boarding the plane and trying to stuff those bags up top and holding everyone up.

Don't bring no STANKIN ass food on the plane with you.
Always take what they are offering...you paid for it. And it's easier to get free drinks if you are cool with the staff.

Go to the BATHROOM before you leave. Don't be that guy on the flight who has to take a shyt then take the walk of shame back to your seat.

If your laptop is so big that it hits other people when you open it up...don't bring it.

If you have a window seat, you shouldn't be going to the bathroom on a three hour flight. More than 5 maybe.
If you sit in the aisle seat, expect to get up.

i try not to check any bags if i'm gonna be out of town for 5 or less days, try to cop a quality duffel bag specifically for this purpose. even if it's officially a bit too big to be a carry-on, it's collapsible so tsa/attendants shouldn't give you any shyt about it

watch carrying on liquids (there's a tsa approved size if you have to bring them), leave the cologne and shyt at home. pack valuables/fragile items in a carry-on

but yeah, comfortable slip-on shoes, patience, noise canceling (or good isolating) headphones, a spare smartphone battery. i try not to drink before or during flights (altitude + booze can do a number on you, not to mention having to pee on a crowded flight <)

Sleeping pills are a good look for long flights (5+ hours)

Try to remember headphones, so you won't pay the $3 for their cheap ass ones

Sometimes the window seat has the video entertainment box right at your feet...so your already cramped feet space is even smaller than normal.
