I came up on black shows on regular TV i didn't know we were a minority till I got older....

So because you saw an abundance of Black people on regular TV, you didn't know that Blacks were a minority in this country?

everyone was black but a couple people in elementary school and I lived in the suburbs of b-more. quite a few newscaster were black and they stayed reporting on black on black crime happening in the city.

It takes time to figure out your a minority when you always seeing black people till you get educated through school and having grown up convos with your people. What is so unbelievable about what I said?

so I turn on the BET awards and see nicki minaj with bleached skin.

then 5 minutes later, they announce some cover girl award for best face of the night. and the award went to amber rose.

then I change the channel, come back 10 minutes later and theyre giving out the award for best female hip-hop artist. yet, 4 of the 5 clips they played don't even sound remotely close to hip-hop. the only one that sounds like hip-hop is...........rasheeda.

they got us man. they f*ckin got us. we love arguing on here about how the white folks are trying to take this chit over, but they been took over. and theyre completely running it from top-to-bottom now. and theyre running it in black-face.

BET hip-hop awards should continued to be laid back. However BET awards needs to step up and add more genres, etc.

I think BET awards needs to give out awards for more than hip-hop, r&b, and gospel. Like give out awards to rock groups, electronica, country to give the black opinion on those things like whites do us with their awards.

nobody wants to see this.

the purpose of shows like the BET awards are so that we can watch our chit without having to sit thru all the white chit.

theres not enough interest in the black community towards rock, electronic, country, etc. all they would be doing is pandering to the white folks for no reason.

yes, white shows give their opinion on black music BECAUSE BLACK MUSIC IS GENERALLY A BIG DEAL. they give out their awards to who they want. and our shows are supposed to counter that by giving out awards to who the black folks are listening to. altho, theyre doing less & less of that these days, and pushing agendas instead. and its no surprise, seeing that these BET shows aren't black-owned. which is why I fell back on it and said what I said in the previous post. but my point still stands.

haha. I actually think artist from other genres would show up if it was done properly and they were asked to perform. Also, i'm sure Jay-Z can get some white celebrity friends to come out. Also, Viacom can pull some strings as they get the award shows done decently with MTV and VH1.

I understand the black entertainment aspect....but I think BET needs to be more about the black opinion on entertainment in 2014. Hell, it might put some BET faithful onto some music they normally don't check out.

and I remember when the BET awards was the hottest show every year, and one year jay-z brought white artists on his set. his performance got a shakey reaction and nobody cared about the white artists that showed up.

nobody wants to watch that chit. and the reactions would be negative.

the cac awards be boring as shyt, American music awards, Grammys, all corn.. And these are musicians and artists, you think cacs feel bad about axl rose not being suited up at a Cotdamn awards show.. U think them cacs is thinking about you during the cmt awards.. In regards to production and entertainment value, bet awards have been near the top for years

then the nominees for these categories be so ridiculous........

best hip hop artist "two chainz", "future".........like come on son..........thats the type of shyt u expect from the white people award shows............when you see a supposedly black show with these types of ridiculous nomintions its abmoniable

then they throw a gospel performance on there ...................that makes no sense to me. Gospel music needs its own awardshow.

And then of course she would be big. Wouldnt be a BET award if they didnt have somebody holding the big mama's down. I hate that shyt! Being big like that is NOT HEALTHY, CUTE OR ANYTHING TO BE PROUD OF!

the only thing I agree with is the part about how the rap categories are a joke on the BET awards. its crazy because they treat the r&b categories with far-more respect. you'll see a dude like t-pain get shine on the show but they wouldn't dare nominate him for best r&b artist. they wouldn't dare. but they'll turn around and throw chit at the wall when it comes time to announce the rap nominees.

but that's all I agree with. everything else you posted is......

most black award shows are indeed suit & tie affairs if you pay attention. and a lot of them air on BET. in fact, the only awards shows that BET airs that aren't suit & tie affairs are the BET awards and the "hip-hop" awards. BET is moreso half-dressy/half-casual. and of course the "hip-hop" awards are mostly casual, but even then, youre still gonna see people in suits. hell, I remember some people used to rock suits to the source awards. yes, the source awards.

smh @ you turning around and giving a pass to the VMAs which is nothing but tackiness & f*ckery.

We actually have the NAACP and trumpet awards and BET honors for more prestigious events (not even including the literary awards, the Black caucus, etc). We also are part of the grammy's emmy's and oscar's, shyt ain't segregated. There are more than enough stuffy award shows....like I said, stop.

BET never tried to make it a classy event, they made it to compete with (and eventually replace) the failed source awards, it started bootleg as fukk and over the years has become more prestigious (I use that term loosely) and better produced...you can't fault the BET awards for not being something it never set out to be.

cosign everything except the source awards part. THE SOURCE AWARDS DIDNT FAIL, and the only reason they pulled the plug is because BET eventually acquired the rights to it(years after the BET awards was already in existence) and then after a while, BET felt compelled to start up their own rap awards show, which is a dam joke.

the bet awards was set out to take over the soul train awards spot as basically being the black grammys, because most black people don't watch the grammys. and that's exactly what they did. and now BET has brought back the soul train awards as a lesser entity. its basically just the BET R&B awards now, if you want to be real.
