Pacquiao vs. Rios To Have USADA Drug Testing

Michael Koncz, adviser to eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao, has exclusively confirmed to BoxingScene.com that USADA [US Anti-Doping Agency] will regulate a random drug testing protocol for the upcoming fight with Brandon Rios, scheduled to take place on November 24th [November 23rd in the United States] at the Venetian in Macau, China. Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38KOs) vs. Rios (31-1-1, 23KOs) will be carried by HBO Pay-Per-View.

Koncz indicates that his team requested the testing protocol.

"Yes, I can confirm that we requested the USADA testing. We've never had anything to hide nor do we have anything to hide now," Koncz stated exclusively to BoxingScene.com.

Pacquiao is coming off a devastating sixth round knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez last December. Marquez was trained by controversial strength and conditioning coach Angel "Memo" Heredia.

Because Marquez, at 39-years-old, appeared to be in the best shape of his life with a newfound muscular body, and because of the sheer brutal nature of his victory - rumors quickly spread that Marquez was potentially using performance enhancing drugs.

In fact, the rumors began to surface before the fourth Pacquiao fight even took place. Marquez was often questioned on the subject and he was very firm that his muscular was the direct result of Heredia's tough training regimen.

Rios, trained by Robert Garcia, is now working with Heredia.

Koncz indicates that Heredia's working relationship with Rios is not the reason for the involvement of USADA in this fight.

"We just want to give the fans a clean fight and avoid any type of speculation or accusations once this fight is done," Koncz said.

Random drug testing was often the sticking point in finalizing a potential mega-fight between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. The two sides were eventually able to agree on a testing protocol, but unfortunately the monetary split between the two fighters became an even bigger issue in making a deal.

I knows he's past his prime, but I'm a huge fan.

One thing I don't understand is his style...

Why does he hold his hands so close to his face while in the gaurd.

In the last fight Trout didnt have to tag the face anymore, he was just hitting Cotto's gloves making him punch his own face.

Why does a guy how bruises so easily, hold a gaurd like that?

Dont worry, Manny being so short sighted and bytchmade trying to cast shade on JMM victory only made himself look bad in the end. Now that monkey is off Floyds back, history will now see that Pacquiao avoided the Biggest mega bout in the history of boxing, which could have generated more than 2.5 million ppvs he refused damn near 80-90 million dollars 50/50 with small rings and small gloves, over a drug test, a test that he later agrees to vs a nobody in Rios(history wise), CRYSTAL CLEAR fukkING DUCK. That monkey will be on Manny's back now going forth IMO he should have stuck to his guns and play good boy to the public like he has.

Two division world champion Jhonny Gonzalez (54-8, 46KOs) has launched a challenge at the newly crowned World Boxing Council (WBC) featherweight champion Abner Mares (26-0-1, 14KOs). Gonzalez lost the the WBC crown to Daniel Ponce De Leon via technical decision last September. Last Saturday in Las Vegas, Mares stopped Ponce De Leon in nine rounds to capture the belt.

Gonzalez had a rematch clause with Ponce, but now Mares holds the title. Gonzalez has already won two bouts since the loss to Ponce.

"I would have liked a rematch with Ponce de Leon, but now Abner Mares has the championship and we want to fight for the title. Abner has shown that he is not afraid of anybody," said González. "After the performance he gave on Saturday, knocking out Ponce, we know it will be a very difficult fight, but we have the discipline and skills to dethrone Mares. It will certainly be a war between Mexicans, the kind the fans love."

Well for starters, I just don't see FMJ dominating Canelo like most of you do... I think if they do fight Floyd gets put on his ass sometime during the middle rounds .. if that don't happen I think the fight goes the distance and Floyd still wins within under 3-4 rounds prompting a rematch since obviously it would be a good fight.. sure Canelo loses, but Floyds hardly gonna hurt him.. Frustrate or make him look bad sure, but I see him easily bouncing back from that loss making a Canelo/Cotto match more appropriate...

The reason Im not enthusiastic about Canelo/Cotto is because Cotto is gonna get his fukking ass beat and its gonna be worse than what Pac did to him.. I really don't wanna see that look on his kids face again man that shyt hurt me..

Above all else I believe that if Canelo destroys Cotto its just gonna make Floydie more discouraged to make the fight happen...

Floyd has fought about 8 times at WW and twice at JMW.
Pac has fought about 6 times at WW and once at JMW.

Both have been rated #1 P4P while at WW.

I never hear anyone saying Pac is ducking Canelo or asking him to fight Serge.
