WBC reveal Broner will drop back to 135lbs, face winner of Arakawa v Figueroa interim bout

WBN has learned that the World Boxing Council have ordered a WBC lightweight title clash for the interim version of Adrien Broner's belt and expect the American to return to the lower division after his clash with Paulie Malignaggi at 147.

Undefeated Broner, 22, assured the WBC that he would be jumping two divisions for one bout only after signing to face the 'Magic Man' on June 22 and was duly given special dispensation to keep his green title.

The WBC have pitted number one ranked Nihito Arakawa and third placed Omar Figueroa against each other in an interim title fight, with Broner then stipulated to defend against the winner or vacate his belt.

"Adrien Broner requested to the WBC board of governors to fight Paul Malignaggi in a welterweight fight, but as the WBC lightweight champion," WBC spokesperson Mauricio Sulaiman told World Boxing News.

"We were told that after the fight he will return to the lightweight division and after the wbc rules contemplated this scenario we realised there are several precedents.

"The WBC have now ordered an interim title fight between Arakawa and Figueroa and the winner will fight Adrien Broner."

They both publically stated that they don't want to fight eachother out of mutual respect and honestly, torch passing

Same situation as Mayweather and Broner

Speaking of which...if he's really dropping back down to 135 after this fight (as he should...Gamboa needs his ass whooped alongside Burns) then for his fight with Paulie, it would be intelligent of him to weigh in at 141

There's absolutely no need to balloon all the way up to 147, especially for Paulie Malignaggi, considering his style and physical deficiency :smugdraper:

With Froch not wanting to fight Ward again unless it's in the UK, the only highly marketable fights for Ward at 168 lie with either Chavez Jr or Martinez moving up to 168

At 175, with, again, he and Hopkins both not wanting to face one another, that only leaves Chad Dawson, whom he's already KO'd

With that said, if no Dawson, then why move up? The same challenges he could face at 175 are at 168.

If the UK fight is highly lucrative, then it could be made, yet Froch flat out said he did NOT want to face Ward again, for his own personal reasons. (he got his ass whooped last time, he knows that)

If I were Ward I'd keep trying my hand at either Froch II, Martinez, Chavez Jr. or Dawson provided that Dawson look impressive June 8th

If he already whopped froch's ass convincingly
Why in the hell does froch or anyone else think he can dictate the terms of a rematch?
And now what...ward is the ducker:upsetfavre:

The first fight, the supposed challenger should go to the Champs/favourite's home. The favourite has earned it.

If the favourite wins but the challenger clears the division again to become the #1 contender, it's only fair to fight the challenger on his patch.

If the challenger wins, III should be somewhere neutralish, if Champ wins II again there's nothing the challenger can say.

Ward don't take many risks in terms of conditions and for that dude is bytch made.

:what: nikka ward doesn't even want a rematch
he won the first fight convincingly
there's no reason to think he won't whoop him again
if froch wants to redeem himself, he fights on wards terms
plain and simple
he should be happy ward's even entertaining a rematch

there is one factor that differentiates Ward from RJJ at the same stage/age in their careers is....RJJ had already won the MW championship and beat Toney. He had defended the SMW titles several times by then. He was a star and the sports best P4P fighter and was already in PPV events. Long story short. RJJ was getting paid more back then dollar for dollar than Ward is getting paid now.

my point is this....if Froch or anyone else wants Ward to come overseas...I dont think it would be that hard...they just have to back up the money truck. if not, there is no real incentive for Ward to go over there because he beat Froch already. the main bargaining chip for Ward right now has to be money.
