by Ronnie Nathanielsz

Mark John Apolinario will face Koki Kameda for the Japanese fighter’s WBA bantamweight title in Tokyo on July 23.

The 23 year old Apolinario is the former WBO Oriental super flyweight champion and has a record of 17-2-3 with 4 knockouts.

He had two consecutive clashes for the WBA Interim bantamweight title against former champion Robert Vasquez but both fights ended in a draw.

Promoter Sammy Gello-ani told BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard he felt Apolinario won the first fight which ended in a majority draw in Argentina on November 3, 2012 and that is why the Filipino was given a rematch in Panama which ended in a split draw on March 16 this year.

The 26 year old southpaw Kameda has a record of 30-1 with 17 knockouts although his last two fights were close with split decision victories by the champion.

The first was against Thailand’s Panomroonglek Kaiyanghadaogym on April 7, 2012 in which Kameda apologized to the fans for his poor performance in a post fight interview. The second split decision was against Mexico’s Hugo Ruiz on December 4, 2012 in which he bloodied the nose of Ruiz and took the last three rounds to win the fight.

Kameda won the vacant title with a twelve round unanimous decision over Venezuela’s Alexander Munoz whom he dropped in the final round in Saitama, Japan on December 26, 2010. Kameda has successfully defended the title six times.

Gello-ani told us that Apolinario has been doing some roadwork initially but will begin heavy training next week under Jun Agrabio who is the trainer of Dr. Rajan Yraola, the manager of Apolinario.

Maybe a soft touch, but after his last two bouts he needs a confidence booster :whew:

...but what if this is another split decision? :heh:

Kessler/Froch was a damn good fight. I thought it was better than the first 1.

Kessler was landing some nice crisp punches that were rocking Froch all night, but he just couldn't force the issue enough to win. I thought Froch took it, but it wasn't some lopsided fight. More like 115-113 type of fight.

I thought it was pretty lopsided myself, though that could be from Kessler's overall balance issues and awkwardness :manny:

Speaking of which, what about George Groves or Nathan Cleverly next for Carl Froch, both guys seem to be left out of the conversation and they're RIGHT THERE in the UK :patrice:

Oh and Tony Bellew is now the mandatory for Chad Dawson/Stevenson winner...

I can't front, the way Kessler moved about at times he did give the impression that Froch was getting to him (reminded me of how Adamek looked against Arreola but not as bad). The thing is Kessler's textbook style was making Froch look horrible last night. Dude was throwing wide ass haymakers that could have dropped the vendors in the stands. Kessler was making dude miss a lot. It's just his foot positioning that hurt him because he couldn't evade cleanly enough to counter right back or make it seem like the force of the blow didn't get to him.

Froch basically won the fight by outworking Kessler and just throwing more without backing up. I thought Kessler clearly had the more quality shots though.

A Froch/Cleverly and a Froch/Groves fights would be big and entertaining. Froch got options for real.

The World Boxing Commission seems to be adamant that current WBC/WBA unified champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez not be allowed to keep two belts and must choose to be either WBC champion or WBA champion. Canelo wants to keep both titles. Eddy Reynoso, Director of Canelo Promotions, has communicated that position to WBC President Jose Sulaiman and Canelo is planning to visit WBA Headquarters in Panama to be presented with the WBA belt tomorrow.

Currently the WBC accepts that Danny Garcia holds both the WBC and WBA belts at 140lbs and Andre Ward held the WBC/WBA belts at 168lbs until being stripped due to injuries.

Only way I see Ward going to the UK is if Froch pay's him the lion share of the money

Essentially Froch will be purchasing an advantage of a crappy ref and questionable judges
Adelaide Byrd is a horrible judge. 3 straight fights she's given :trash: scores

Not watching this bytch fight ever again. Him vs Nonito was the worst fight I ever watched

Dude should never be allowed to fight in the US or TV again :pacspit:

I think a 50/50 split there would be fair and he would possibly go for.

Mike Tyson - "Watching Floyd Mayweather fight...It’s like watching paint dry.”

UFC leaving boxing behind | Las Vegas Review-Journal

Amen to that shyt.....

in the early rounds...that shyt is nothing short of poetry in motion. its not his fault that after the 3rd or 4th rounds his opponents fall into a pattern of helplessness then things become repetitive. people would rather see Floyd stop moving and take a shot on the chin for free like Mayorga.

when RJJ wasnt knocking people out they said the same thing about him. people that watch boxing want to see competitive matches. they dont want to see lopsided repetitiveness. a Canelo fight would be no different...so why does everyone want to see it if Floyd is so boring? why does he still lead in PPV buys even if his last didnt do 1 million?

the same people that say Floyd is boring are at the arena saying "I shouldve stayed home and watched on tv"??? why watch it at all if its boring? why watch Floyd vs. Guerrero of all his fights? people be talkin that shyt but somebody watchin this nikka fight.
