I hate how people always want to troll and say "Oh the Heavyweights from the 20s to the 40s would be Middleweights today"

Both Jack Dempsey and Gene Tunney weighed in at 190 pounds. They would be Cruiserweights today

But besides that, this was one of the first examples a Boxer vs Puncher matchup. Dempsey being the Puncher, Tunney being the Boxer. The play by play guy actually uses the phrase "Gene Tunney is going to be on his Bike", which is pretty cool

The WBC’s latest ratings update – released July 11 – includes the installation of three new No. 1 contenders.

At super middleweight: Christian Mbilli went from being the WBC’s No. 1 contender to being its interim titleholder by virtue of his first-round TKO of Maciej Sulecki on June 27.

That vacancy allowed Jermall Charlo, who somehow was slotted in at No. 2 the previous month following his May TKO win over the unrated Thomas “Cornflake” LaManna, to become the new No. 1.

However, don’t expect Charlo to remain in that slot long. Hamzah Sheeraz’s TKO win over Edgar Berlanga on Saturday was an elimination bout.

Mbilli is still ahead of Sheeraz and Charlo for a potential shot at the winner of September’s fight between undisputed champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Terence Crawford. However, if Canelo or Crawford were to vacate the WBC belt, then Mbilli would be upgraded and Sheeraz would be his mandatory challenger.
Will any of these 3 guys fight each other, will Turki make them or something?

We all know the WBC won’t mandate Canelo to fight anybody he wouldn’t want to fight anyway. At this point they should just fight each other. All three potential fights between them sound great on paper.

I don’t see Mbilli getting his shot, unless Bud beats Canelo and the belts scatter. Canelo will more likely to choose Sheeraz or Charlo imo but Sheeraz is probably the front runner because Turki’s lobbying power.

Right, I mean Alishikh has deliberately looked to undermine the WBC somewhat in the last 6 months, whilst simultaneously attempting to embellish the significance of the Ring Magazine belt (nothing more than a promotional arm at this stage).

Do you see Canelo taking the Sheeraz fight though? I think he probably just edges Sheeraz late with a stoppage, but that’s a dangerous fight for Alvarez at this stage, Sheeraz doesn’t really get pushed backwards all that much like other opponents, he stays off the line and is able to sit behind his legs if that makes sense?

Charlo fight is probably easier on paper, he still nice with it, but not young anymore and has been extremely inactive.

Why push this for August? Comes off desperate.
Tank just beat his girl again. How many times they gonna let it slide?
Roach said on his live the 16th but its nearly a month away and not an announcement in sight and who knows if Tank is training. Roach might as well go defend his 130 belt

I’m still not totally sold on Sheeraz as someone belonging to the top class. Imo Berlanga was a softer touch than Adames even counting in that this was at 168. We should see how Sheeraz fairs against someone who defends himself better while going forward to really tell how much could he improve with the new team.

So atp I don’t see Canelo being wary of fighting him not even the current somewhat over the hill Canelo.

I liked what I’ve seen from Jermall in his last fight but it remains to be seen wether it was just the opponent not being that good or Jermall having a renaissance. It’s unlikely to have much of a renaissance at 35 in boxing but we’ll see. I’m not sure if he’s an easier fight than Sheeraz or not.
The Canelo fight would be a tough sell though, the Canelo vs Mell fight was so lackluster that even a brother revenge arc would be a tough sell.

Neither am I with sheeraz but he did what he was supposed to do with a hypejob like Berlanga...its a pity he can't run it back with adames though

Yeah, I don’t have anything against Sheeraz btw, he’s talented, seems like a decent person at least and it was impressive how wuick he sent Berlanga to the bushes. It ain’t his fault that he happened to be Turki’s favorite and that gives him more opportunities :manny:
