Matthysse: I Agreed To Garcia's Terms, They are Hesitant
By Ernest Gabion

While the boxing world is captivated by the September 14th super fight between Floyd Mayweather and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, there is another highly anticipated fight that fans have been speculating about with great enthusiasm.

On one side we have Lucas "The Machine" Matthysse. Matthysse burst on the boxing scene in grand fashion with a series of devastating performances, culminating with a demonstrative 3rd round stoppage of IBF Light Welterweight titlist Lamont Peterson this past May. Matthysse sports a record of 34 wins, 32 of those wins by knockout, with two disputed losses to Zab Judah and Devon Alexander

Ringside at Matthysse's victory over Peterson was the other half of this proposed light welterweight showdown, Danny "Swift" Garcia, who also made quite a splash upon boxing with a stellar 2012 that saw him grab both the WBA and WBC titles.

It seemed like a natural fit that The Machine and Swift would head to a clash sometime in the immediate future. Unlike past proposed dream match ups, this fight does not possess any of the hang ups that have stalled fights like Abner Mares vs Nonito Donaire from happening. Both have the same promoter and manager (Golden Boy Promotions and Al Haymon respectively), both are seemingly at or near their primes and both have taken on an accelerated ascent through the 140lb rankings.

However, as this article goes to print the fight has yet to materialize in spite of several key Golden Boy personnel stating this fight was close to happening. CEO of Golden Boy, Richard Schaefer, told BoxingScene.com's Rick Reeno that this fight was close to happening on proposed date of September 7th, with the Staples Center and Dodger Stadium, which are both located in Los Angeles, as possible venues. Golden Boy matchmaker Eric Gomez, appeared on Boxing Scene Radio and advised them that he was confident that the fight would take place and that Schaefer advised him to make this a priority.

Schaefer would later tell BoxingScene's Keith Idec that Garcia-Matthysse was likely moving away from the date of September 7, with a new date landing later in the fall.

"I have done everything in my power to make this fight with Danny Garcia and as of right now the hold up is with Garcia or his team" Matthysse told BoxingScene.com today "Everything on our side has been agreed upon all terms given to us seem to be fine with me and my team."

Matthysse has not been shy about his wishes for a Garcia and he affirmed that once again.

"We clearly have wanted this fight for sometime." Matthysse, "we clearly are doing everything we can to make this fight happen with Garcia but it seems to be Garcia or Garcia's team are the ones hesitant on making a fight with me for whatever reason"

As to why there is a hold up of this fight Matthysse is unsure. One thing that does not seem to be putting the fight on hold is the rumor that Matthysse had been hesitant on possible testing being proposed for a Garcia clash.

"I am not sure why this fight hasn't already been made it is not up to me to make Garcia agree. I can only take care of my side and my team and we have handled that. We have no problem with dates, we have no problem with money, and we have no problems with testing."

While they indeed have set their sites on Garcia they are willing to move on should Garcia pass on this fight.

"The WBC has mandated that Garcia is to fight Lucas for the title and we will abide by that," an advisor for Matthysse told me while translating for Matthysse. "If Garcia does indeed choose not to fight Lucas then we will ask the WBC to strip him of his title and Lucas will fight someone for the title once vacated but do not get us wrong we want to fight Garcia for that title"

Matthysse concluded his short interview with BoxingScene with assurances that he wants to back up his claims that he wants to prove he is the best.

"I have said I am the best fighter in my division and one of the best in the world. A win over Garcia would prove that and that's what we want to prove we are the best"

"I want the best, I want this fight, I want to show who Lucas Matthysse is. It's up to Danny now. He says he is the best. What better way to prove it than to fight each other?"

jcc jr stop ggg :wtf:..the same jcc jr that couldn't stop fighters like zbik or duddy or lyell or rubio at 160 :dahell:...man jcc jr's power really gets overrated on here..dude has not stopped anyone to date that has had a rep of being durable or with a good chin..meanwhile the only time ive seen GGG in any type of trouble in the ring was in the early rounds against ouma and thats because ouma started out fast and had the faster hands...jr is not known for either of these traits....jr is also not an intelligent fighter and can't outbox GGG at all
@synistr do yourself a favor breh and watch some GGG fights

its not so much about Jr's power but the style that GGG brings to the table vs the style that JCCjr brings. if GGG cant stop JCCjr...how do you think he holds up over 12 grueling rounds...under a constant body attack. I am not saying Jr is this or that...I have never been that high on him but we are talking about a pretty big guy that can take a punch and dish it out.

I didnt see the Ouma fight....when was it? Within the past 3 years? Cuz dude aint been relevent since Verno Phillips and Kasim never had power, just overwhelmed fighters with volume...and that was at 154. If thats an indication, facing world class opposition that is far past their best days and best weight...I think you will need to provide me of another example.

One day somebody is going to have to explain to me how this corny, funny sounding, stuttering motherfukker Elle Sekbech(sp?) got so deep into the boxing media game... what the hell are his credentials? Where did he come from?

not at all. pac is way past prime right now. canelo doesnt have the hand/footspeed/or cardio.

both in their primes, im confident pac wouldve won a unan decision or a TKO. if u made a blueprint for a fighter to beat floyd its pac. iron chin, KO power n both hands, swarming type fighter to give him no space, incredible speed, with cardio to go 12 rounds.

both in their primes, it hink pac wouldve won on simply outlanding. he wouldve walked thru floyds shots and delivered 5 in return.

the fact u compare em is pretty hilarious, pac and canelo are NOTHING alike.

breh, where is your reading comprehension? where did I compare them? the only thing I said is Canelo is as much of a THREAT. that doesnt mean he would do better necessarily or that he would fight a similar fight or anything. I am just saying he is an equally dangerous opponent.

I dont know what some of you dudes is watching...in their primes it really wouldve been no competition because Floyd was pretty much unhittable in the ring unless he chose to be like against JLC or E. Burton. Pac prime was just a few years ago because he just really became a better boxer after the 1st Marquez fight. He may be younger but his prime is gone. His prime was when his boxing ability and physical ability were both at an apex.

First thing, Manny has shyt ass balance. :heh: bad bad bad. Secondly, speed can be negated with the jab (as the late Vernon Forrest said). Picture if the fighter using the jab has just as much speed. He's smaller. Floyd is also stronger. The punch JMM koed him with was one he didnt see. JMM is not a fast fighter at all. He is an excellent counterpuncher but Floyd is a great counterpuncher WITH speed.

You can believe what you want and its nothing wrong with that...except when you use the fact that the fight never took place to fuel your arguments of what Pac may have done when he has lost before, after, been in close fights, etc...while Floyd has remained....UNDEFEATED.

a name fighter...but not a top tier fighter at 154-160. a guy who had lost 5 of his last 7 going into that fight and pretty much retired after GGG. you gotta gimme something better to work with my nig...

I did see his fight with Rosado and Ishida. Just didnt see what the hype was about except for the fact that everyone loves KO's. He's a good puncher but thats all I can say at the moment.

but this is what I will do...I will watch a few more of his past fights and get back to you.

Golovkin Back on HBO in November, May Fight Before That - Boxing News

By Bill "Two Scoops" Emes

According to Tom Loeffler, managing director of K2 Promotions, IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (27-0, 24KOs) will return to HBO on a date in November. Golovkin has already fought three times this year, with knockout victories over Gabe Rosado, Nobuhiro Ishida and last Saturday's drilling of Matthew Macklin. While Golovkin is looking to return in November, Loeffler would like to complete his boxer's goal of fighting five times in 2013. If the right opportunity comes up, they would take a fight in August or September.

"The next HBO date is set for November. However, there are two other options in August and September that we're weighing and we'll decide which one makes the most sense. We definitely want to fight five times this year. We want to make a statement this year with Gennady being the most active champion around. The next HBO date is in November, but if an opportunity came up in-between then, we would definitely fight in-between," Loeffler said.

So...The "Big" fight will be in November, probably against Kid Chocolate, Martin Murray, slim chance it's Geale/Barker winner, Felix Sturm maybe

but in August...who should he fight?

-Dmitry Pirog? Missing in Action due to a ruptured disc, was supposed to face Golovkin earlier, wants to return in August but said he needs to "see how is body responds to heavy training".............not likely but still possible

-Sam Soliman? Not sure where he's banned due to the testing scandal that's currently fighting since his B sample (in America) came back negative, but a guaranteed action fight, one the fans would certainly love to see.

-Hassan N'dam?......another M.I.A. fighter since losing last year to Kid Chocolate, a pure boxer that was down but never out against Peter Q. and would be a great barometer for a future bout with Mr. Q.

-Daniel Jacobs or Jermain Taylor........nah, ya'll not doing my boy like that :to:

-Andy Lee.......could try to avenge his Irish comrade

-Sergio Mora..........just beat Proksa, is the style match up many people feel would cause the most problems, intriguing match up. Mora is known to be a spoiler (Forrest, Mosley, Ishe Smith)

-David Lemieux..........if Rubio stops him, GGG kills him, but he's got nothing to lose in this situation.

-Anthony Mundine.......veteran with a lot of experience, outside style and boxing skills; last seen giving Geale a tough rematch that he clearly lost but felt he won...he's a very proud fighter.

-Akio Shibata........since he likes to pick on Japanese middleweights (remember Ishida), he's the top guy for Nippon hands down.

-Osumanu Adama.......tough, experienced Ghanian, never been stopped

-Max Bursak/Lukas Konecny........as long as they win their respective bouts next month, they're tough, experienced fighters
