Alot of his wins right before the Rocky fight was shaky. He "won" against Jersey Joe Walcott in their first fight, which alot of people say Jersey Joe got robbed. And the 2nd fight he looked shaky even though he got the stoppage. Those were telling signs he should have walked away
After the Rocky Marciano fight, Louis still had money problems, so it ultimately stepping in the ring against Rocky seemed like a waste to me

he fought like 9-10 times between the 2nd jersey joe fight and rocky....ezzard charles was the passing of the torch title wise but he was on a win streak even as he was aging and they werent shaky

And that "win streak" was against journeyman and a good marketing ploy to set up the Rocky Marciano fight
