Super-bantamweight king Guillermo Rigondeaux has finally reacted to the shameful actions and comments made by Top Rank ruler Bob Arum and HBO of late, with the Cuban rightfully livid with the numerous negative quotes and demands which have bizarrely been levied at the WBA/WBO/Ring magazine titlist by his own promoter and network. The undefeated (12(8)-0), pound-for-pound rated, former amateur king, two-time Olympic Gold Medallist and lineal 122 lb ruler finds himself in the absurd predicament of having no immediate fight lined up when only a few months back he dethroned the former division ruler Nonito Donaire in awesome fashion to make his mark in the pro-ranks, astonishingly after only 12 bouts.

Such a feat is remarkable in the modern era, and the fact that he utterly dominated his Filipino foe with such ease ranked him immediately within most peoples pound-for-pound lists. However, the nature of the win has clearly upset Arum and HBO who although have tentatively booked November 9th for his return, have actually slated their fighter in public with his own promoter stating that fans of the sweet science do not enjoy watching his style, and that it would be hard to promote his man in the future let alone get HBO back on board. To be frank, Arum has treated the global boxing star with utter contempt and it would now appear that Rigondeaux will be looking to move elsewhere when his contract ends next year as expected; although rivals Showtime and Golden Boy have allegedly already made it clear they would be happy to guide the Cubans career.

“Here is what bothers me, the lack of respect from Top Rank and Bob Arum, who makes jokes in bad taste – like the one where he says that in order to become a superstar Fidel Castro has to come down and promote me or how the people at HBO vomit when they hear my name,” Rigondeaux told George Ebro. “HBO recently paid homage to all of the champions and Top Rank/HBO did not invite me. They say they’re going to give me exposure on this card and that card and then forget those promises. Everything is a lack of respect. Either they promote me or give me back the contract, but I will not accept any more disrespect. I’ve won my titles with great effort and I will not let anything or anyone come and disrespect me. Arum does not treat everyone equally, I have no doubt about that.”

One has to side with the Cuban in this instance as to face such criticism from his own paymasters is pretty much unheard of and is incredibly unprofessional, amateurish if you will. It also reeks of double-standards when Donaire himself participated in 3 consecutive stinkers against Wilfredo Vazquez Jr, Jeffrey Mathebula and Toshiaki Nishioka respectively last year. Ironically, the Filipino star was awarded fighter of the year for those wins and of course still enjoys the undivided attention of Arum and HBO.

Rigondeaux will hopefully feature at 122 lbs this winter, although there are limited opportunities at the weight due to him wiping out the divisions premier fighter in one fell swoop. A move to featherweight may beckon for the former Olympic great, however it remains to be seen whether it will be under the tutelage of Top Rank with relations between the fighter and promoter seemingly at an all-time low.

Rigo is a great fighter, and I feel bad that he's gotta deal with bullshyt that Arum and the rest of these fukk boys at HBO are putting him through. Honestly, he should sit out this year and make that move to Showtime. He already whooped Nonito's ass and that was about the only big money fight. So now that he beat Arum's top guy, he doesnt need them for shyt anymore.

Rigo is 32 he can sit out all he wants but it don't change the fact, he just signed a new deal with arum right before the nonito fight, so his ass aint going no where.riggys whole team is taking advantage of him, he's giving up 25% of his purse to his manager 18% to his corner :wtf: he's basically fighting for scraps. i don't see why arum don't put him on the pacquaio or even alverado undercard against someone like vic, agbeko or even quigg.

Free agent Agbeko targets Rigondeaux

Out of sight and out of mind has finally ended for former two-time world champion Joseph KingKong Agbeko. After a two-year on-and-off legal dispute with promoter Don King, Agbeko finally secured his promotional release last week and is ready to challenge any of leading names from 118 to 126. There is one name topping Agbeko’s wish list, Guillermo Rigondeaux, the talented two-time Olympic Gold Medalist and current WBA-WBO World Champion.

“I’ve always been a great action fighter for television and I will make a war with Rigo. He’s a great fighter, but he can fight dull. The fight with (Nonito) Donaire looked like a boring sparring session.” Agbeko said. “I can guarantee network bosses and boxing fans that my fight with Rigo would be an action filled war. He can run but he can’t hide. I will impose my style on the fight. Rigo wants to be the master artist in the ring, but I’ll ruin his painting. He wants to win fighting smart and safe. I won’t let him. I will do whatever I need to do to make him fight an all-out battle.”

Agbeko would also love the winner of this weekend’s Leo Santa Cruz and Victor Terrazas WBC Super Bantamweight title fight. He sees Santa Cruz as a gifted young fighter.

“I think Santa Cruz has a lot of heart and he’s an all-out fighter, but I don’t think he’s that skillful and smart in the ring,” Agbeko said. “I think he’ll win this weekend and then if he doesn’t fight Mares, I believe I’m the only boxer left for him to prove himself against. It will be a great match-up for me. I know I’m much smarter and more skilled than him. It will be his first loss against me. If Santa Cruz beats me, I would just retire.”

Also sitting atop this weekend’s Showtime card is another major challenge the proud Ghanaian Agbeko wants, a third and defining meeting with the highly respected Abner Mares,.

“The first fight most fans would agree with me that I should have got the win. The second fight, my body was in the ring but my mind was not there. I had too many distractions with the business side of the sport. I still consider Mares and Donaire the elite fighters I want. Beating Rigo or Santa Cruz is the best way to get to them.

“I know Mares is a great fighter but I also now that I can beat him, he knows it as well. He is the type of champion that wants to prove himself against the best so soon we shall meet again for the third time.”

As a new promotional free-agent, Agbeko is finally free to work with whatever major promoter offers him the biggest test. He’s had just a brief tune-up victory in Accra, Ghana since he last major fight in the second Mares match in December, 2011. He feels fresh and strong, ready to battle at whatever weight the big opportunity comes.

“My mind and body are finally focused 100-percent on boxing and beating my opponent in the ring. I’m ready to prove myself against any challenge. There are so many great fighters in the 122-126 divisions and I know I can challenge and beat the best of them,” Agbeko stated. “I’d rather fight than talk, but fans need to know I’m back from being locked out and ready to deal with whatever promoter gets me the big fight. I’m ready for the best.”

Amir Khan vs. Devon Alexander is on Dec 7
Welterweights Amir Khan (28-3, 19 KOs) and Devon Alexander (25-1, 14 KOs) collide December 7 in either Dubai, UAE, or Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. Golden Boy is waiting to see if Dubai “has the capcity” to handle the event. Khan told the Daily Mail, ‘I do have a lot of fans in the Middle East and especially in the UAE. Maybe he does feel that everyone will be against him if we fight in Dubai. But I can assure it will be a fair fight, obviously. If it happens, it will be a global event. They are doing big things in Dubai and UAE and it will be beneficial for all … if we fight in Dubai.”

By Rick Reeno

BoxingScene.com has been advised that junior welterweight contender "Hammerin" Hank Lundy (23-3-1, 11KOs) has signed a managerial agreement with James Prince, who guides the careers of Andre Ward, Tavoris Cloud, Brad Solomon and several others.

Last month, Lundy snapped a two fight skid with a dominating ten round decision over tough Olusegun Ajose.

Lundy tells BoxingScene that he plans to target all of the big names at 140. He is currently sparring with Adrien Broner, who returns on November 9th - likely against Marcos Maidana.

"I plan to stay at 140, I feel a lot stronger at this weight. I'm ready for everybody. I think I'm ranked at number 2 under the WBC, so I would like that Garcia-Matthysse winner. I'm in the gym working and ready to fight," Lundy told BoxingScene.com.
I'd love to see those sparring sessions :whew:

This is khan's chance...he takes that belt off devon and he's prolly the front runner for Floyd's next fight at 147

my boy is part of Lundy's team and he is not happy with this...apparently Lundy stays signing with different managers and speculates money was the reason for signing with Prince...lundy is perpetually broke he says...6 kids will do that to you :smh:
Well, he'll just have to keep winning

Any idea when and who is next?

Devon will fake injury, with the long list of names on DA resume he seriously has nothing to gain and everything to lose by facing Khan
