On Tuesday evening
WBO/WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (12-0) visited with us on the most recent edition of BoxingScene Radio.
The two time Olympic Gold Medal winner has been in the news lately as he has been waiting for his next fight. Rigondeaux defeated top 5 pound for pound fighter Nonito Donaire in April, but Top Rank and HBO haven't made the Cuban's return a priority.
"We are just waiting to see what happens.
We have two fights left on Top Rank. We will see what happens after that. They aren't giving me the promotion that I need. They just have me on standby," Rigondeaux explained.
Rigondeaux said that he really doesn't know what the issues are and why he isn't getting the respect he feels he deserves. He said that as long as he keeps winning his promoters should do their job.
"I am not sure what the problem is. I am doing my job being a fighter so I leave the promoting to them. I am just standing around and time is passing me by," Rigondeaux stated while also saying that he might have been better off if he had lost to Donaire.
"I am not sure if it would have been better if I won or lost that fight. I won and nothing is going on. I thought I put on a clinic against Donaire. Donaire was worried about being a star and now I won and I am going to be the star," Rigondeaux told us on BoxingScene Radio.
