hbo is pushin dawson-ward for ppv and doing a 24/7

i like this fight overall, and the fact of pushing younger talent in the mainstream with the 24/7, countdown shyt but this aint a ppv fight. i say hbo keep the 24/7 but drop the ppv. i see the fight doing less than 150K.

I love watching ward fight but theres no way I'd pay for a PPV of it, unless the undercard was disgusting.

I like Andre Ward (not the biggest fan of Dawson) but I don't think this is going to be a successful PPV (in terms of buys) unless the undercard is stacked with ultra-competitive fights filled with names people know and/or one or both of these dudes develops an engaging personality and puts on a show during the 24/7 series.

Mathebula's promoter says he's been booked to operate his broken jaw, so it wasn't just a cracked tooth.

Damn i cant wait for maravilla chavez. I think its gonna be a repeat of the pavlik beating. Sergio will slow mid rounds. Get in some trouble simply cause of chavez's size. But in the end he'll turn it up and his boxing skills will be too much. I really hope he beats the shyt out of him though.

Former IBF super bantamweight champion Jeffrey Mathebula is to be operated on for a broken jaw suffered in his unification title fight against WBO champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire at the Home Depot Center in Carson City last July 7.

The California Boxing Commission doctor who examined Mathebula after the fight initially diagnosed the discomfort as being caused by a broken tooth.

However, the Manila Standard reported Mathebula was suspected of suffering a broken jaw which was confirmed when the former world champion was examined on his return home to South Africa.

The fighter’s well known promoter Branco Milenkovic who returned to South Africa on Monday from Los Angeles confirmed that “Mongoose” has been booked to undergo surgery.

Branco confirmed “We initially thought that it was tooth problem but it is in fact a broken jaw.”

Milenkovic noted that fighting with a broken jaw against the universally recognised fifth rated pound for pound star makes Mathebula’s performance even more heroic especially after highly respected American fighter Victor Ortiz opted to quit in his corner when his jaw was broken during his welterweight clash against Joselito Lopez just a fortnight ago.

Milenkovic said he was proud of the gusty display of his fighter in the HBO- televised main bout especially in the wake of his unexpected injury.

The promoter revealed that “Mathebula could not speak after the fourth round, which underlines the pain he was feeling but he did not let everyone see it because he wanted to fight on like the true soldier he is.”

Milenkovic said that South African judge Deon Dwarte had Donaire the winner by a “shocking” 119-108 scorecard while judge Jonathan Davis had Donaire winning 117-110 with Steve Morrow turning in a 118-109 scorecard.

However, Ring Magazine, boxingscene.com and HBO which televised the fight saw a much closer fight t 115-112 even though Donaire scored a fourth round knockdown where Mathebula was saved by the bell.

Darchynian and Montiel are his only impressive wins you think?
I agree he doesn't set up his power shots for shyt anymore, which is a shame b/c hes got a good stiff jab, and when he did set up that right he cracked ol boys tooth in half

I think it's pretty safe to say that those 2 fights are his biggest wins. He has some other impressive performances but none have come recently. The one fight where he was doing the Dempsey roll and knocked dude out while switching stances was pretty cool though.

Sad thing is he already talking bout moving up to 126, even when he got like 2-3 real good fights that can be made at 122. :noah:
