Richard Schaefer : "Carl Froch will never be able to capture the American audience the way Amir Khan Is"
On Froch's assertion that Khan should retire:
"Carl Froch suggesting that Amir retire is ridiculous. Carl Froch will never be able to capture the American audience the way Amir Khan is. His name barely registers among fight fans let alone sports fans. Amir Khan’s exiting style is what has earned him the respect of the U.S. fight fans.
"Amir Khan got caught with a a punch. But one punch does not change a man. I can assure all fight fans that Amir will be champion again. What we saw from Amir in the rounds is his tremendous offense.
"Now he needs to go back to the drawing board and focus more on defense. If he does that, he will be a complete fighter, and nobody will be able to beat him and I do mean nobody!"
On the marketability of Froch versus that of Khan:
"Carl Froch on the other hand should focus on his own business- no TV network here in the United States is jumping up and down and asking when can we have Carl Froch back.
"I have already received calls from HBO and Showtime both asking when will Amir be back. I am 100 percent behind Amir. In good times, everybody is your friend.
"But it is in difficult times when you see who your real friends are. I know that Amir will be fighting on a major TV network from a major venue in the United States if he wants to. Amir was a star, is a star and always will be a star."
On the notion that Khan has a weak chin:
"All of the people who are questioning Amir’s chin or calling it a 'glass chin' are idiots. Amir took the best shots from Marcos Maidana, who unquestionably one of the hardest punchers in the sport, and it did not affect him.
"It does not matter who you are, but if you get hit on the neck, right behind your ear, even Superman man or in this case King Khan goes down.
"All of these so called 'boxing experts' who are now all over Amir criticizing him should frankly get lost. Who in the hell needs them.
"Most importantly, Amir is a terrific young man who is a pleasure to be with, and I am proud to call him my friend. This kind of s--t motivates me, and believe me, Amir and I and his entire team will, in the end, be the ones who will have the last laugh."
Some of y'all aint giving Garcia the props he deserves
That's an accomplishment in itself. It was always a winnable fight for either guy, it's just that Khan had the better record and skills so of course he was favored to win. Even after seeing his flaws exposed in previous fights, he still was the favorite.
at the nikkas who thought Khan could beat Floyd. Khan would have his hands full with cats like Devon Alexander and Victor Oritiz. Khan at his best (Malinaggi and Kotelnik fights) can go up against anybody but he can't follow a game plan for shyt. Gets emotional way too much. His flaws are starting to outweigh his strengths.Had Khan stuck with the jab and boxed instead of trying to knock Danny's head off that fight might've gone a lot better for him.
I would like to thank all my fans and well wishers for the amazing support I've had from you since my defeat on Saturday night. Obviously the fight never went as planned but credit has to go to Danny Garcia who caught me with a good shot in the third round that I couldn't fully recover from.
I guess that's boxing, where one punch can change everything, it's the reason so many fans love the sport. Many fighters down the years have bounced back from defeat to prove their greatness and that's exactly what I intend to do.
I've never shirked any challenge or refused to fight anyone in my division even though it would have been easy for me to do so. Some may say that attitude is the wrong one to have but I've always wanted to please the fans and be involved in exciting fights because many of you pay good money to come and watch me, and it's only right that you get to see the best fighting the best, especially in an age when so many top fighters hand-pick opponents.
I'm going to spend the next few weeks relaxing during Ramadan and recharging my batteries after what was a 16 week training camp for me. I'll then sit down with my team to assess the options in front of me.
Well done to Danny Garcia on his performance, but I promise that I'll bounce back stronger than ever as I look to regain my spot at the top of the 140lb division.
Amir Khan
the HBO announcing is getting ridiculous garcia didn't win those first 2 rounds but everytime khan hit him garcia got in a good shot nack and he was prepping that left hook upstairs since the bell rang, their bias is crazy
also it seems like khan doesn't have much power upstairs compared to his body punching abilities, thats strange to me
that body punch KD of maidana is one of my favorites, maidana must have been pissing blood for weeksKhan's a good body puncher, thats the thing about the Maidana fight that really pissed me off. He put him down in the 1st with a body shot then after round 1 he didnt bother usin that kind of attack again.
