Times Square in New York City was the place for Monday’s kick-off press conference for the PPV rematch between WBC/WBA welterweight and WBC/WBA super welterweight champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather and Marcos “El Chino” Maidana taking place Saturday, Sept. 13 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Marcos Maidana: I think I deserved this rematch. Without a doubt, we’re going to prove who won the first fight in this rematch.
Maidana trainer Robert Garcia: The only question everyone’s asking, and I still don’t know the answer, everybody’s asking about the glove situation and we can’t answer that question. That question you have to ask Mayweather himself.
Floyd Mayweather: Am I fighting a boxer or am I fighting an MMA fighter? I don’t know…elbows…what I can’t believe is this is one of the best trainers in the world but he’s telling his fighter to fight dirty. If he can beat me, do it the honest way, earn it the hard way. But I gotta realize this. I know where I’m at in my career because I was champion when your trainer was champion. It’s been almost 20 years and I’m still here. When your trainer’s career was long gone I’m still here. When I beat you and your career’s over, guess what? I’ll still be right here.
Let me step back so y’all can check my swag. The diamond Gucci belt, it’s official. The Dita glasses, it’s official. The diamonds are always flawless. The style is always flashy. Check the Forbes list. It’s all about “Money May” all day. Let me step back so y’all can check my swag. Get your cameras out and take a picture!!! This is gonna be the last time y’all see a champion like this.
OK, I got something better than that for you, since I know I’m probably making about $70 million. He believes in his skills and I believe in my skills. So however much you’re making for the fight, I’ll bet you I’ll beat you. That’s how much I believe in myself because I can afford to give up whatever. So if you believe in your skills like you say you believe in your skills, however much you’re making for the fight, I’ll bet I beat you. Bet the fight! If he believes in his skills bet the fight. Bet the fight! Either you’re going to bet or not. Either you’re going to piss or you’re going to get off the pot. That’s what I’m talking’ about. I played his hole card.
El (Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe), get up here and talk about this bum!
