WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (30-0, 27KOs) just blew away one fighter from Australia and he might have another Aussie star in his sights. On Saturday night at New York's Madison Square Garden, Golovkin only needed three rounds to take out two-time champion Daniel Geale.

Golovkin is likely going to return on an HBO televised date in October or November. He would like to face WBC champion Miguel Cotto, who returns in December. A fight with Cotto is more realistic for 2015 - although most insiders expect the Puerto Rican star to return to junior middleweight.

The more probable option is IBF champion Sam Soliman (44-11, 18KOs), also of Australia, who recently dominated Felix Sturm to capture the title. Golovkin is hungry for unifications and Soliman, at 40-years-old, is looking for good paydays and probably a much easier option to secure.

Golovkin's promoter, Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions, will attempt to make the fight but he can't guarantee that it happens.

"Gennady wants to prove that he's the best middleweight champion and the only way to prove that is to go out and fight the other champions, so we would go out and try to make a Sam Soliman fight - if it's possible. We can't force anyone to get in the ring. We saw that with the Chavez fight. We agreed to a lot of conditions for the Chavez fight and it didn't happen," Loeffler said.
