But if the Golovkin fight is presented to Cotto, trainer Freddie Roach said he certainly would not stand in the way.

"I like the Canelo fight better, but I like a fight with Golovkin second. I'd have no problem taking that fight," Roach said on Friday, over the phone from his Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California.

Roach was ringside for Golovkin-Geale. He had never seen GGG fight and wanted to get a good look at him up close. Roach's fighter, junior middleweight Glen Tapia, was supposed to be on the undercard, but when his bout was canceled at the last minute, Roach decided to remain in New York to watch Golovkin (30-0, 27 KOs).

He came away impressed, but not fearful of Cotto (39-4, 32 KOs) facing him.

"He hits very well. I don't think he has the best defense in the world, but he is a very offensive fighter and a strong puncher," Roach said. "If we did fight him I'd like the fight to be closer to 154 [pounds] to make him come down a little bit. He's very strong, but I think we definitely could negotiate that fight for sure.

"Cotto made 155 last time [for the Martinez fight]. He's a little smaller than Golovkin, so I'd like him to come down as far as possible."

Don't think we have to worry about the fight being made as Canelo-Cotto is the logical fight financially and more comparable size wise, but :obama: anyways.
Sure we'll fight him...at 154 for the 160 strap...:beli:

man I love b hop, but I just don't see him pulling this out. he's gonna be hesitant as fukk like he was vs dawson and lose a clear decision. but if he does, he gotta be the greatest of this era.

man, i may not watcfh the fight. I can't witness Bhop getting battered from that dude, this is what logic is telling me.

im with you brehs...but kovalev hasnt been past 8...and in that last fight where he went 7 dude was gasping and if that other cat wasn't too fukked up..those championship rounds would have been interesting..you need something of a stamina to have a shot at beating bhop

FNF was entertaining as fukk last night.

:obama: at Dirrell looking good after such a long layoff. Looks like he bulked up a lil bit too. He seemed quicker in the past, but he was still quick. He beat the shyt outta Love in that sparring video.

:mjlol: at Teddy spazzing out about GGG. Sooner or later he'll become a #GGGoodBoy. :win:

Williams Jr was looking decent out there and the fight was about even when it was stopped. He should be able to rebound from it. I don't think his power is as good as they think it is though. Campillo turned the clock back and did his thing. He should rematch dude or go after Fonfara again.

-I thought Gavin beat Bundu close but clear. It's amazing how ineffective Bundu became when faced with a jab and movement. That body shot though........

-Browne better get back in better shape

-Dirrell is back, again.... and PLEASE keep calling out Ward

-Thomas Williams did not behave like a fighter.........

-Congrats to Campillo but he'll have to take another eliminator before he gets a mandatory shot. Mohemmedi owns the mandatory spot as of now.

Closer to 154, a weight Golovkin has already stated plenty of times he can make if a big fight presented itself. This is a big fight.
The 160 strap should be defended at 160 not closer to 154...

You want to fight closer to 154? then give up the MW strap...

160 is just the maximum weight, 155 the minimum. They can negotiate whatever they want. Once those contracts are signed, all excuses fly out the window. If they offer a lower weight and Golovkin and his team feel that they can make the weight comfortably, what's the problem?

If Golovkin can make the weight I don't have a problem with it but Roach will find another excuse not to make the fight happen...

You're fooling yourself if you honestly think they want to fight Golovkin...

They want Canelo...

Well, yeah, he said it clear as day that the Canelo fight is the 1st option. All he was doing as affirming that GGG is on they're radar and that he wouldn't mind that fight being made. Sure there may be other demands, but the bigger the fighter, the tougher the negotiations, this has always been the case. GGG is the B side, there's no other way around it, either negotiate and try to put your fighter in the best position possible or move on.

And why can't the title be defended at a catch weight? As long as both parties agree, again, what is the problem?
