Dan Rafael chat wrap 1/6:

- Not impossible Wilder vs. Joshua would happen before the end of the year (both would have to continue winning), but doubts it.
- Isn't Ortiz supposed to fight the Joshua-Klitschko winner? Not necessarily.
- Jacobs is the best opponent GGG has faced. Chance of an upset? 5/10.
- Believes that GGG has one of the better chins he has seen in boxing.
- Could see Selby-Frampton fighting in the UK if Frampton beats LSC again.
- Prefer Frampton vs. Selby or Mares? Fine with either, but prefers Mares.
- Will Frampton beat LSC easier the second time? No. Another hard bruising fight.
- Canelo and JCC talks are getting closer, but still no deal.
- Most likely location for Canelo vs. JCC would be Vegas or Texas.
- GB's lawsuit against Haymon has been a minor inconvenience in trying to make Canelo-JCC, but not a big enough factor to stop the fight.
- Horn would be a very underwhelming Pacquiao opponent. Arum had previously told him he wanted Horn to make a name by fighting Bradley or Vargas and if he won then fight Pacquiao.
- Pacquiao vs. Horn would not necessarily be a PPV fight in the US if it happens.
- Arum won't make Pacquiao vs. Horn unless he is sure it makes money.
- For a fighter who is as good, doesn't get into trouble, and great accomplishments it is odd that so many people dislike Andre Ward.
- Will Ward vs. Kovalev 2 happen? Not sure. If it happens, cool, if not, we move on.
- Kathy Duva is 100% right when commenting on the Ward-Kovalev purse ($5 million for Ward, $2 million for Kovalev), "we aren't in the business of losing money". Kovalev's manager Egis Klimas and Kovalev himself understand what money is actually available for him to be paid.
- No reason he knows of why Lamont Peterson cannot fight. He might fight David Avanesyan in the coming months.
- Nothing set for Beterbiev. He should be fighting for a title or title eliminator at this point.
- Jarrett Hurd is a monster and likes watching him fight.
- Tickets for Garcia vs. Thurman will go on sale soon...once they decide whether the fight will be on Showtime or CBS. Believes it mostly depends on CBS, making prime time network changes isn't easy.
- Why is Freddie Roach in the HOF, while Roger and Floyd Mayweather Sr. and Naazim Richardson haven't been on the ballot? They are good trainers, but don't have the body of work as Roach.
- Andrade at 160 vs. Lemieux? Andrade. Skills pays the bills.
- Prime Judah vs. a focused Broner at 140? Judah.
- Salido says he wants a Vargas remach and the money offered to fight Lomachenko was okay, but not great. Lomachenko probably needs Salido more than Salido needs Lomachenko.
- Is Salido ducking? Salido has never ducked anyone in his life.
- Porter vs. Berto? That would be a good fight.
- Crawford vs. Broner? Wouldn't mind seeing it, but probably too expensive for regular HBO or Showtime and wouldn't do well on PPV. A tweener fight economically, which means it probably won't happen.
- Likes the idea that Wilders card is all HW's. Reminds him of past HBO HW tripleheaders.
- Easy to say that UFC puts on better fights than boxing because the UFC keeps 80% of the revenue and gives 20% to the fights. Easier to make fights when you don't pay as much. In boxing those numbers are probably reversed and boxers make way more money than UFC fighters.
- Cotto wants a Canelo fight. Personally wants to see Cotto fight Bradley or JMM.
- Potential Cotto opponents (asked by a fan): Khan - zero chance and not interesting, Brook - unlikely because Cotto won't go to the UK and not a big enough fight in the US, Bradley - personally likes the fight, Orozco - who cares, JMM - personally likes the fight.
- Briggs championship fight is an absolute farce.
- Odds of Chocolatito vs. Inoue in 2017? Doubtful.
- Hurd vs. Lubin? Would be a good fight, but no reason to match them up so young in their careers.
- Thoughts on Wilder's resume? It isn't that strong, but the division is thin, he has never ducked anyone, and he signed to fight Povetkin who tested positive.
- ESPN FNF to return in the near future? No.
- Believes that GGG vs. Canelo would wind up being in Vegas, not at Cowboys Stadium.
- KO of the decade? This decade - JMM's KO of Pacquiao, of the 00's - Pacquiao's KO of Hatton.
- US TV for Linares-Crolla 2? Both Showtime and HBO are interested.
- Will Sven Ottke ever get in the HOF? No. He will forever remain on the ballot and never get in.
- Why are US fights more subdued than UK ones? A lot has to do with the location you choose and popularity of the fighters.
- Maidana for HOF? Love him as a fighter, but no way is he a HOF'er.
- The NY Insurance law does nothing to protect fighters. You are only covered after you get hurt, they need to focus more on not letting fighters get hurt. In Mago's case, they told his team to take a cab to the hospital, instead of being prepared to take care of that situation.
- Believes it was funny how the NY Insurance law was written - in regards to if it was designed to promote the UFC.
- Agrees that Kirkland is the new Mayorga. Fighters will continue to fight him to make exciting fights, but he won't win.
- TR wants to make Verdejo vs. Flanagan on Puerto Rican Flag Day at MSG.
- Picking Zlaticanin to beat Mikey Garcia.
- Joe Smith vs. Sullivan Barrera? Good fight.
- Joe Smith vs. Stevenson? Stevenson.
- Lomachenko vs. Crawford? Maybe down the road, but impossible to make on regular HBO financially right now and it won't sell enough on PPV.

Breadman on Pacquiao vs. Crawford:

I think Pacquiao gets about 20 million/fight. Isn’t that his usual? I think the powers that be need to cough the money up. Pacquiao did over 4 million PPV buys vs Mayweather in 2015. That’s not very long ago. I can definitely understand why he would ask for 20 million to fight an animal like Crawford who he would be the underdog against. Aging greats get paid big money to take fights like that.

I think Crawford beats Manny at this point. Crawford seems to be special and in his prime. Pacquiao is in the fight however. I actually think he’s faster and more naturally athletic. He’s also seen every style imaginable. And he can still shock you with his rhythm. He scores knockdowns with the same left hand shot that no one can seem to avoid.

But Crawford is no slouch in the athletic department. He also has impeccable timing, Ring Generalship, Great stamina and loads of versatility. That on top of the fact that there is enough film study out there for Crawford to steal from in Manny’s fight vs Mayweather, Bradley and Marquez. I believe Crawford and his team will be more than ready. I like Crawford by a 116-112 decision but I wouldn’t rule out Manny scoring an early knockdown. In fact I think both greats get dropped.

Agree with most of them. Especially the Ward and Wilder not ducking anyone thing. Will add some points to what he said in this later.

Dan Rafael chat wrap 1/6:

- Believes that GGG has one of the better chins he has seen in boxing. -- Indeed

- Could see Selby-Frampton fighting in the UK if Frampton beats LSC again. -- as long as they find a way to televise it

- Horn would be a very underwhelming Pacquiao opponent. Arum had previously told him he wanted Horn to make a name by fighting Bradley or Vargas and if he won then fight Pacquiao. --don't like this whatsoever....horn has no profile to be getting a fight like this

- No reason he knows of why Lamont Peterson cannot fight. He might fight David Avanesyan in the coming months. -- Lamont just throwing away his career for no reason

- Salido says he wants a Vargas remach and the money offered to fight Lomachenko was okay, but not great. Lomachenko probably needs Salido more than Salido needs Lomachenko. -- if it doesn't make dollars then it doesn't make sense..they need to quit wasting salido's time if they are not serious:beli:

- Likes the idea that Wilders card is all HW's. Reminds him of past HBO HW tripleheaders. -- hmmmm :patrice:

- Briggs championship fight is an absolute farce. 2017 HW black eye coming up :snoop:

- Hurd vs. Lubin? Would be a good fight, but no reason to match them up so young in their careers. -- why not match them up? Get them in the mix

- Will Sven Ottke ever get in the HOF? No. He will forever remain on the ballot and never get in. -- agreed..fukk him

- Agrees that Kirkland is the new Mayorga. Fighters will continue to fight him to make exciting fights, but he won't win. -- it shouldn't be either

- Picking Zlaticanin to beat Mikey Garcia. -- makes me wonder who the betting underdog would be?

- Joe Smith vs. Sullivan Barrera? Good fight. - agreed

Instead of talking about money now, when Pac is literally about to fight a former kangaroo tamer, why don't these dudes try to promote the fight?

Only reports are about how much they want, not "I'ma knock pac the fukk out for Nebraska" or "I'ma show t-craw I'm still the shyt by getting my first KO in 7 years, and craws bytch is fat" its oh I'll only do it for 20MM and 7MM.

That's why nobody is buying the fights. SMH.

@GREENandYELLOW from the post.

I'm starting to wonder now about this because NY was one of the last places in the US to legalize MMA and it was a huge uphill battle to get it legalized there. So to hear about that insurance law and Mago getting done like that:gucci:. Anyone from NY know what the deal is?

- Salido says he wants a Vargas remach and the money offered to fight Lomachenko was okay, but not great. Lomachenko probably needs Salido more than Salido needs Lomachenko
Now this is gonna turn heads for sure. :russ:

Easy to say that UFC puts on better fights than boxing because the UFC keeps 80% of the revenue and gives 20% to the fights. Easier to make fights when you don't pay as much. In boxing those numbers are probably reversed and boxers make way more money than UFC fighters.
This is an interesting point because right now MMA fighters past and present have formed a fighter's union. A couple of things I noticed there
Rory Macdonald left the UFC because of contract disputes. I'm sure the fact that he got paid less than Sage Northcutt who was a hypejob and wasn't even ranked in the top 10 may 20 in the UFC after robbie and lawler had possible the best MMA fight of all time for a title. He moved to Bellator for a bigger payday.
Conor while being the A side and obvious MMA draw being unhappy with the media obligations so much so that the biggest MMA event of the year was derailed. So the highest paid fighter wanted more autonomy.
Khabib offering to give up part of his purse because Tony Fergueson who is on a 9 fight win streak and should be nr 1 contender isn't getting paid properly.

And that is recent disputes in the UFC which pays better than other organizations on average. Not saying boxing doesn't have their issues (shyt how many fights didn't get made because of these disputes) but it is interesting to see this dynamic. OP pointed out.

That said the UFC always has compelling cards instead of relying on 1 big fight. They do a good job of promoting some of the fights on the undercard. And I mean a really good job. I don't wanna play the blame game but even the Ward Kovalev match up didn't seem so well promoted considering the magnitude of the match. Maybe the rematch will have that benefit.

I guess one factor could be that it helps that UFC have almost all the best talent in world with a few exceptions. After their Merger with WEC and orgs like Pride and others going down it was a lock.
Boxing has 6 or more major promotions, several major governing bodies and they don't got some of the dope TV contracts UFC has e.g HBO reaches 50 million households while Fox Sports one reaches 80 million.
(British boxing TV eats good though).

RJJ spoke about it here
