Felix Diaz To Crawford: “Time To Face A Real Challenge!”
PostDateIcon.png
January 20th, 2017 -

Dominican Felix Diaz (19-1, 9 KOs) ended a successful 2016 as a world ranked junior welterweight contender with another two impressive victories added to his ledger. He is determined to continue that momentum this year by facing the biggest challenges. The top name on his hit list remains WBC/WBO junior welterweight world champion Terence Crawford.

“I spent half of last year calling out Crawford. He went the easy route, facing John Molina, who entered their December title fight three pounds above the weight limit and was way overmatched. Now, it is time for Crawford to face a real challenge,” said Diaz.

“It doesn’t look like he’ll be fighting Pacquiao any time soon. I am highly ranked by the WBC and WBO, and I am willing to go to Omaha, if that’s what he wants. I respect Crawford as a champion and would love the opportunity to knock him out in his hometown. My promoter Lou DiBella is ready and willing to talk to Bob Arum to get a deal done. It would be a great fight for boxing fans. Let’s get it on.”

Diaz closed out last year fighting in his native Dominican Republic for the first time in three and a half years, breaking down his opponent en route to a TKO victory, on December 16, in Santo Domingo.

Prior to that, Diaz won a thrilling 10-round war against highly regarded, undefeated contender 21-0 Sammy Vasquez in Birmingham, AL. The bout was shown live on FOX, and served as the co-main event to Deontay Wilder’s heavyweight title defense versus Chris Arreola.

The Vasquez fight came just nine months after Diaz lost a questionable majority decision to former IBF 140lb. champ Lamont Peterson in his adversary’s backyard. Wins over 15-1-1 Emmanuel Lartei, 13-2-2 Adrian Granados, and 23-1 Gabriel Bracero earned Diaz the shot against Peterson.

Following the win over Vasquez, Diaz, the only boxer to win an Olympic gold medal for the Dominican Republic, signed a long-term promotional agreement with DiBella Entertainment. Ranked no. 5 by the WBC, no. 13 by the WBO and no. 15 by the IBF, Diaz is anxious to prove that he belongs among boxing’s elite.

“Arum and I have worked together for a long time,” said Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment. “Diaz facing Crawford is a very attractive fight, one that promises a lot of action, and I am confident that we can get it done. We’d be happy to fight on HBO and in Omaha, or anywhere else. While many fighters are avoiding Crawford, Diaz is ready for the challenge. The question is, does Crawford want it?”

“Terence Crawford is someone we’ve been going after for a while,” said Diaz’ manager Jose Nunez. “We would love the opportunity to fight for the world title. Diaz wants to face the best and the best at 140 pounds is Crawford. He continues to maintain his conditioning and will be ready when called, hopefully in April. It all depends on whether Crawford wants to step up to the challenge.”

Just as good as Adrian Granados is....slightly better.

Definitely a solid B fighter that would be the best opponent Crawford has ever faced imo:manny:

I never believed in Postol....blame @ChocolateGiddyUp who went in on Postol so strongly, even when Swift was supposed to fight him, it made me see thru the mirage they were building about Postol. I figured that if Swift was going to fight him, and even Choc saying Postol aint that good, then it has to be true:yeshrug:

Also, I never thought Matthysse was anything more than a very limited B fighter either

diaz barely beat Granados who many believe he got robbed, who claim to fame is an overraterd prospect in amir aman.

diaz claim to fame is beating an overrated prospect in vargas.

choc just want diaz to look good cause Peterson beat Garcia ass and diaz had a close fight with Peterson. lol:mjlol:

but im gonna let diaz be this b+++ fighter which will still be a cherry for craw at the end of the day and end in domination.

I see it no other way as well. Canelo is gonna exercise ALL the demons up outta that boy:mjlol:

It's gonna be Canelo/Angulo all over again:blessed:

I cant wait for this, because it's a strictly rivalry fight....haven't been this excited since Canelo/Cotto was about to happen:banderas:

Should I do it?:ohhh:

It has been a long time, bc Canelo made me mad....but it's about time I got over it and come back home I think:ohhh:

welcome home breh:mjcry:

don't you think about walking out that door again though:ufdup:.....I told you canelo won't let us down. you just gotta keep the faith

no matter what anybody says, this is a risky ass fight for canelo. completely skipping 160 and going to 165 right off the bat. vs a guy who will probably be a heavyweight on fight night. canelo gonna dominate but he still might take some serious damage in this fight. but if he's as great as I believe he is. he's gonna do something remarkable on may 6th:wow:

@LauderdaleBoss @Newzz @patscorpio what level of fighter is diaz so I can make sure craw gets his credit when he beats this breh?

anyone else can answer this to.

Diaz is a solid B level guy. Skill wise and physical dimension size, he's prolly the best combination of both that Crawford has fought. Plus you can see he has some talent to go with it (not really a puncher tho)

Beltran was good, but skillwise he ain't up there with Craw and I consider Beltran a B level guy as well.
Burns was solid, but already a bit long in the tooth when Craw fought him
Gamboa was good, but too undersized to really matter and he still was mad competitive
Hundy was solid, but lacked the size and durability to really matter
Dulorme had the size, but not the skill to hang
Postal was solid, but he wasn't anything special in skill or physicality

in all honestly thats not a bad list of wins to have on your record, but nobody was truly a match for Craw or shared equal footing in skills, size, and physical attributes when those matches were made.

Everyone always lacked something that did them in advantage wise.

Diaz ain't even some big match up for Craw like that, but it''s better than Molina, Lundy, and Postol. They just have bigger names in the sport than Diaz, but don't match up as well with Crawford,

@Newzz naw that shyt just irritated me that u would think craw would struggle on some 7-5/8-4 type win over postol.

I NEVER hype these fighters to make craw look like he on some killer streak.:stopitslime: I believe hes an elite boxer/talent on a skill level. I don't even believe hes a an hof yet like Floyd or has a hof resume.

but I understand where u came from now. everybody don't see every fighter the same. and that's ur right for not believing craw is an A+++ - ELITE fighter.

but since everyone is saying that its nothing wrong with fighting the big draw then i don't see a problem with craw going after the bigger name over diaz...since i don't think much of him anyways.lol my opinion though.

I'll take my L's, because re-reading back, I was on some clown stuff over the Canelo/GGG situation....but that's over with, bc I don't care about GGG truthfully:heh:

Why was I even defending him, when he blatantly ducked SOG?:mindblown:

Im back to being a full-fledged stan of Canelo, even Wifey was starting to look at me like ":comeon: you know Cinco De Canelo coming back around, we #CaneloCartel or what?:usure:"

Im back. I got to caught up in the politics of Boxing and forgot why I loved Canelo....his skill is :ahh: to me:whew:

#CaneloCartel..........but :salute: you for never going thru any confusion. You held it down breh. You the captain now:wow:

De La Hoya Worried: Chavez Jr. Could Derail Canelo-Golovkin Plan

By Miguel Rivera

According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya, he is very motivated to stage a September fight between his company star Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) and the current middleweight king Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs).

In the coming months, both fighters are scheduled to take part in high profile returns on HBO Pay-Per-View.

Golovkin will defend his WBC, IBF, IBO, WBA middleweight titles against Daniel Jacobs on March 18th at New York's Madison Square Garden, while Canelo returns on May 6th when he moves up to a contracted catch-weight of 164.5-pounds for a showdown with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr,

canelo-golovkin_58.jpg

While De La Hoya promises to finalize Golovkin-Canelo for the fall - he is worried about the outcome of Canelo's next fight. He cautions that Chavez Jr. is capable of pulling off the upset - which in turn would create an immediate rematch and even possibly a trilogy.

"I have always said that Canelo is going to fight with GGG this year. That has always been the goal, the plan. The only reason that we wouldn't make that fight is because the Chavez fight with Canelo could be a war, maybe it ends in a draw... that would force a rematch. The plan is for Canelo to fight three times and to have big fights like GGG and Chavez," De la Hoya told ESPN Deportes.

"[Canelo-Golovkin] depends on the May 6th fight. I've always said that Canelo is going to fight with GGG in 2017 and that's the plan, but that depends on this fight, because there could be a rematch rematch, a trilogy - it could be the Fight of The Year - if Francisco Vargas gives them the opportunity."

" I think a rematch [between Canelo and Chavez Jr.] is possible... it all depends on the fight - but I have always said that Canelo is not afraid of anyone including Golovkin. I have always said that he will fight with GGG this year."

But you wanna tell me Canelo got Power The Great One needs to worry about :Lol88:

nikkas be trying to make Canelo out to be Terry Norris and shyt.

Dude has power, but that shyt gets overrated around here big time. If we were to put it on a 1-10 scale, it'd prolly be a 7.5

He can definitely hurt you and his skills allow him to get the most out of his power (timing, accuracy, etc..) but he lacks that killer instinct to push you over the cliff. His power will get you close to the edge though, but rarely is it a deciding factor against guys his skill level or size or both.

Guys like Tito, GGG, Martinez, Taylor I'd say have power that's at least 8.5 or above. They pretty much hurt, deter, drop, rock everyone they fight.
