Khan Prefers Danny Garcia: I Schooled Him Until I Got Caught!
By Carlos Boogs
Former world champion Amir Khan is still very eager to get revenge on current WBC welterweight titleholder Danny Garcia.
They fought in a junior welterweight unification in July of 2012. Garcia came in on late notice after Lamont Peterson had failed a pre-fight drug test and was pulled from the fight.
Khan (31-4, 19 KOs) was dominating the fight until he got clipped on the chin with a hug counter-hook in the third round. He went down hard, and then went down two more times in the fourth before the contest was stopped.

Khan is currently the mandatory challenger to Garcia's title.
Garcia is scheduled to unify his world title with WBA champion Keith Thurman on March 4th from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The winner will be obligated to make a mandatory defense against Khan.
“I know I could have won that fight. I was beating him and schooling him, until I got hit with a big shot. That was me not thinking and sticking to the game plan," Khan said.
“I know how the training camp for that fight went. I thought the fight was going to be a walk in the park and I didn’t take it seriously. I thought he was the new kid on the block, I thought, ‘Who is this kid?’ It was all one-sided, but then I made that one mistake and got caught."
Khan has been out of the ring since moving up to a catch-weight of 155-pounds to challenge then WBC middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in May 2016. Like the fight with Garcia, Khan started very fast and appeared to be ahead when Canelo caught him with a monster shot that knocked him out cold in the sixth round.
Khan wants to take a tuneup fight in April and then intends to pursue a major fight in the summer.

That's the thing. Khan's speed and pace is insane early on but it took swift a few rounds to start getting that timing down and best believe that swift is a beast when he gets that timing down. He had Khan walking like a newborn baby giraffe which being from Namibia is a touching moment but I digressTheres posters here who think the same thing

Easter isn't THAT impressive eitherVerdejo's Trainer Not Happy, Unsure if Title Shot Should Be Next
By Miguel Rivera
Rising Puerto Rican lightweight star Felix 'El Diamante' Verdejo left a bad taste during his return to the ring in the starring role of Top Rank's Solo Boxeo card, which that took place on Friday at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum.
Verdejo defeated - with some difficulties - Nicaraguan Oliver Flores by unanimous decision. The performance drew boos from the local fans in attendance. It's not the first fight where Verdejo put in a lackluster performance.
Verdejo's veteran coach and manager, Ricky Maruqez, is not sure as to whether his pupil, now 23-0 with 15 KO's, is ready to go for the 135-pound world title of the World Boxing Organization ( OMB).

Even with his lackluster performance, Verdejo automatically became the mandatory challenger to the WBO crown, which is currently held by Terry Flanagan of the UK.
"I personally do not have the security [of knowing that he's ready for a title shot]. If I really had to say whether or not he was ready, I would say no," said Marquez to Carlos Narvaez. "In my book, I gave him a letter C [for that performance]. I expected more from his performance. I didn't think that inactivity would affect him so much."
The judges saw Verdejo the winner with scores of 99-91, 96-94 and 98-92. However, it was his opponents who at times seemed closer to sending the Puerto Rican boxer to the canvas in the final rounds.
"He says his breathing was fine. But I did not see that power and explosiveness. We have to sit down and evaluate everything that happened. What worries me is the lack of explosiveness. The shoes also gave him problems. He was slipping a lot and that affected him. Now we have to evaluate the next step," Marquez added.
Verdejo had not fought for more than seven months after suffering a severe motor accident that caused several minor injuries.
"I felt the punches of Flores. He's an uncomfortable left-handed fighter. I missed a lot of blows. But that's just it. I need to keep improving little by little," said Verdejo.
Regarding the boos, the young fighter played down their importance.
"The criticisms will always be. No different than good vibes. The people who support me will always be there. It is part of this work," he said. "I have to continue working with my physical condition and improve."

Yall still think Verdejo is better than Easter?![]()

Easter isn't THAT impressive either
He barely squeaked out a close win against Commey. And even though I don't believe in triangle theories Commey lost his next fight against Shafikov who was proven to be not elite before, failed on multiple occasions.
Easter is young and has an upside but he needs to use his length much better I mean he needs to actually use it not like on his Commey fight. You can be the tallest person on Earth with the longest reach if you don't use it as an advantage. I believe he will improve and he will beat Shafikov but he isn't a measuring stick for me right now.
And Verdejo... we will see, he isn't the most interesting prospect imo but I expect him to do better than that after he gets back in top form. I think his accident might influenced his showing a little.
