I wanna close this quick cause I don't want to find myself arguing about Dominic Wade's resume a week later but the point is you can separate the level of opponents Golovkin had and Canelo had aside of their bigger fights (Jacobs, Trout, Lara, May) but I don't really. In my eyes a Liam Smith win isn't really that worse than a Lemieux win for example

Agree on some point disagree on others

Agree: HBO and the media went way over the top with the hype and they kinda force fed Golovkin. He is not a PPV star. He should have accepted that offer and he should especially accept it now.

Disagree: He is not just a manufactured fighter though, he had to have a exciting style first and a good enough skillset to destroy at least those B/B- level opps. A dude from Kazakhstan won't get picked up by HBO just like that w/o anything.
He doesn't belong to PPV --> if PPV still exists as a model (it shouldn't) he is among those few fighters who at this moment actually belong there. He isn't the superstar he was marketed to be but he still does bigger numbers than almost everybody except a few fighters.

Was/is his hype annoying as fukk? Yes. Is he a untalented fraud? Nah.

Free boxing is the future though, the time of PPVs is pretty much over. Floyd vs Conor will still produce mega PPV numbers though but that's just another dimension
