CRAWFORD WOULD GO TO 137 FOR LOMACHENKO FOR RIGHT MONEY

In his search for quality opponents, Terence Crawford says he won’t fight below 140 pounds against anyone, including Vasyl Lomachenko, the supremely talented two-division champion.

But Crawford trainer and co-manager Brian McIntyre provided a sliver of hope a fight could one day happen with Lomachenko, suggesting a catch-weight of 137 pounds for the two fighters — if vast amounts of money are tossed their way.

“If they put $10 million to make 137 we’re going to make 137,” McIntyre said, laughing because the number he cited was unrealistic. “We’re going to make 137. But I know it’s not going to happen.” Added McIntyre, “Terence would beat the (expletive) out of Lomachenko. He too damn small.”

Promoter Bob Arum, who turned 85 on Thursday, has previously mentioned the possibility of pairing Crawford and Lomachenko, who just made Nicholas Walters quit after the seventh round on Nov. 26 in a junior lightweight title defense. Though McIntyre has little confidence the fight would happen, he did at the very least submit a starting point for discussions with a catch-weight of 137 pounds; Crawford is No. 5 and Lomachenko No. 6 in THE RING’S pound-for-pound list. A 137-pound cutoff would involve Lomachenko rising seven pounds and Crawford dropping three to make it happen.

Arum has had trouble finding big-name opponents for Crawford. Manny Pacquiao apparently wants no part of him, as evidenced by his choice to face Jessie Vargas on Nov. 5 instead of Crawford. That leaves Arum to work with Al Haymon and his stable of talented welterweights to give Crawford the type of significant fight he covets. Crawford has what amounts to a stay-busy fight against John Molina Jr. on Saturday on HBO at CenturyLink Center in his hometown of Omaha, Nebraska for his RING/WBC/WBO 140-pound titles.

McIntyre hopes to see Crawford back in the ring in the first quarter of 2017 and to fight three times, the same as 2016. He also hopes to see Crawford fight on HBO PPV, as he did in July in a junior welterweight unification match with Viktor Postol that did very low numbers.

“As long as we got a good opponent and then Terence doesn’t have to carry that pay-per-view by himself like he did last time,” McIntyre said. “As long as it’s the right opponent and he can bring something to the table then let’s go to pay-per-view and try it again because you start small and then continue to build your brand, continue to get new fans, overseas fans. A lot of people didn’t know who Postol was.”

I know, but people aint gone care. u know that.

especially the racist like that fakkit steve kim. after craw beat postol he still talm bout "but but but gamboa is his best win at 126" but had said that would be craw biggest test andit would be close fight.

see I factor in all this man. it aint worth it. broner would be a better win and mikey Garcia. plus they good draws....which is what craw need.

when craw come in at 160 and loma only 145......nikkas gone lose they mind.:mjlol:

Dan Rafael chat wrap 12/8:

- Lamont Peterson should be back early 2017 on PBC.
- Both Charlo's at their best could be the best at 154, at worst are good titleholders.
- This will be the first fight Charlo is fighting with clear eyesight (LASIK surgery).
- Whyte by decison, but not a strong feeling either way.
- Tevin Farmer is a worthy title challenger. Raushee Warren was ordered to fight McDonnell and doesn't know why it hasn't happened yet.
- If Joshua beats Molina, thinks he fights Klitschko in April. He next fight after that would likely be in the US (if he won), unless there is a Klitschko rematch.
- Could definitely see Valdez vs. Verdejo happening down the road.
- Adonis Stevenson is the most disappointing fighter of the last 4-5 years because he won't fight anyone. He just put off the Alvarez mandatory. He hasn't made a mandatory in 3 years.
- The plan for Stevenson vs. Alvarez is in April, but he will believe it when he sees it.
- His reaction to Pacquiao vs. JMM 4 was absolute shock. Everyone thought Pacquiao was about to finish JMM off and he heard the 10 second clapper and was going to record his round score (for Pacquiao), when Pacquiao got KO'd.
- It is sad to see what HBO puts on PPV (in regards to Cotto-Kirkland). It is only on PPV because Roc Nation owes Cotto so much money that it can't be covered by HBO's license fee.
- Is interested in seeing Bradley and JMM as Cotto opponents. Not interested in seeing a Canelo rematch.
- Mayweather vs. Margarito, pre Margarito found cheating? Floyd by outboxing 12-0.
- Absurd that Chico Corrales hasn't made the HOF ballot yet. You can argue he doesn't deserve to get in, but he deserves to be on the ballot.
- Very possible GGG vs. Jacobs could be on PPV. Doesn't see it doing more than 150-175k buys.
- GGG and Jacobs can still make a deal before the purse bid date. We will see if Jacobs pulls out of the fight if he only gets the purse bid 25%.
- The hang up on GGG vs. Jacobs is money.
- HBO will open with tape delay of Parker-Ruiz, then Menard-Beltran, and Crawford-Molina. Showtime will have Joshua-Molina early, then Charlo-Williams, and Cuellar-Mares later. Showtime will show the Lipinets and Lubin fights on Facebook.
- Peter Nielsen with HBO has not been willing to tell anyone publicly his plans for the future of HBO boxing.
- Thurman vs. Garcia will either be on Showtime or CBS, no PPV.
- Parker KO over Ruiz.
- No US TV yet for Povetkin-Stiverne.
- If Andrade vs. Culcay gets made, no one cares and it won't have US TV.
- Lara vs. Andrade? Andrade.
- Lomachenko vs. Rigo isn't a necessary fight. They are two weight classes apart and Loma has bigger fish to fry and more interesting fights. Rigo puts you to sleep and not with his punches.
- Chisora keeps getting fights because he looks the part, throws tables, and sometimes makes an interesting fight.
- Toughest fight for Lomachenko is Mikey Garcia? Not necessarily, thinks he dominates anyone from 135 down.
- Illegal streams are hurting PPV's badly. It is easy to find them with no virus risk.
- Hatton vs. Gatti at 140? Gatti certainly would have a chance to win the fight.
- If Crawford wins this weekend, he certainly is in the conversation for FOTY.
- Will Broner ever be a PPV star? No.
- If Menard wins he could get a title shot in the future.
- Does not give Bute the benefit of the doubt in testing positive for PED's.
- Holyfield's suspected PED use does not affect how he votes for him in the HOF. Does he think he used PED's? Yes. Do we have proof? No.
- Holyfield is not in his top 5 HW's of all time.
- Canelo's team wants him to fight in February, May, and September. He is skeptical of the February one and thinks we most likely only get May/September.
- Bigger bust: Samuel Peter or David Tua? Peter.
- PPV in its current format is basically dead. Mayweather vs. Pacquiao helped kill it. Streaming will murder it.
- What is the most HBO has paid for a fight to air on their regular TV? Don't know the exact amount, but they have paid over $10 million.
- No word when Brand Jordan will release GGG merchandise.
- Molina will give a good effort vs. Crawford, but eventually gets picked apart.
- Most athletic HW he has ever seen? Michael Grant.
- Web traffic on ESPN is higher for boxing than it is for MMA.
- Heard the PPV buys for UFC 205 with McGregor were disappointing and not what the UFC was expecting.
- Callum Smith is a legit top 10 guy with big upside.
- Does he think JMM used PED's? Yes, but he has no proof.
- Picking Charlo by decision over Williams, but it is a 50-50 fight.
- Chisora vs. Whyte fallout: the fight will still be an eliminator, but the title won't be on the line. Chisora gets a two year suspended sentence, meaning if he gets in trouble again he is suspended for two years with no hearing. Chisora also fined $25k.
- Chisora is definitely mentally not 100%.
- Gilberto Ramirez is probably back in March.
- Chances of Lomachenko vs. Salido 2? Likely.
- Did GGG dodge a fight with Ward? Fiction of the highest order.
- His top candidates for fighter of the year are: Frampton, Crawford, and Lomachenko.
- Having something like BoxNation in the US seems like a no brainer.
- Haye vs. Bellew to US TV? Would hope that Showtime International buys it.
- Lara vs. Foreman is a putrid fight.
